Not as far as I know, this is just for a special display. I built it like a humidor expecting that it would be best if they retain their humidity to a degree, but it wasn't a requirement of the project.

Went to Connecticut for a wedding, ended up getting a bunch of wood fired plates and a figurative piece. The matching plates are Tim Scull, Noborigama fired in Pen-spod. The figurative piece is atmosphere from what I can tell, by Ken Piccard. Check out that back crackle detail!

I looked at several book matched vs single board options. I am leaning towards getting a single board but the $$$ is

Cool, I’d probably go bookmatch. I have enjoyed stopping by Nakashina a few times, Kevin is always great to speak with, he’s got some seriously entertaining stories.

What I’m struggling with is that while the bookmatched tables are more practical, they are also more common. The single board tables are far more unique. I am wondering if I am commissioning something from the start if it would be better to make something unique. The bookmatched tables are more easily found at auction and the single boards are rare and far more expensive.

I'd work from the end goal in backward, do you want a long rectangle or a short square or circle? Long slabs are typically going to be less interesting since the tree grew straighter, but you might be able to find something long and wide that is also very good.

What else did they have available in long/wide?

This’s another possibility but I wonder if 48” is too wide.

I’m also thinking if I should get something that looks like the Nakashima table in this picture below. It looks like a single board with a conoid base.

IMO, I think 36-40 is plenty.

That second photo is definitely a single slab. It’s typically referred to as a crotch section, because the trunk grew into into twin trunks at that area. If you ask for a crotch section slab they will know what you’re looking for.

What was the conclusion on mattresses? How do memory foam compare to spring or hybrid spring? I'm thinking about trying one of the Zinus gel memory foam because they're so inexpensive it isn't much of a risk.
