Like everyone else said above, this can be done (on most frames - not all). Check with your optometrist. On Oakley sunglasses, they [Oakley] will take your prescription and make the lens themselves. For other sunglasses, take them to your optometrist.
On a side note, if your company has a Health care FSA (Flexible Spending account), what you can do is this. Buy any designer sunglasses from anywhere and keep receipt. Take sunglasses to your optometrist and have them put in your prescription, but make sure receipt says prescription lens for your new sunglasses. With the optometrist receipt + your designer sunglasses receipt, submit the expense to your FSA administrator for reimbursement! They WILL reimburse you for the sunglasses + new prescription lens.
