I emailed Silvia's shop down in BsAs asking if they made Peccary custom gloves, this was the (edited) reply that I got.

"We make Carpincho gloves (which are higher quality than peccary).

Do you glove experts agree, that Carpincho is better than Peccary? Especially for gloves?

Thanks, look forward to your input!

Carpincho is pretty cool. I'm not sure that I would say it is better, but it is certainly not something that one can get easily outside of South America.

I cannot compare carpinchio to peccary because I've never tried the latter. But...

I have a carpinchio wallet, my friend has a carpinchio jacket, and I have tried on carpinchio gloves (that I would have purchased had they fit). IMO, carpinchio would make the perfect pair of gloves because it is thin but strong, and also because of its texture.

On a trip to an estancia in the Argentine pampas, just outside of BA, I encountered this poor fellow. He's a Carpincho. All he did was scratch himself furiously. He'd probably be happier as a pair of gloves than to be damned to eternal scratching.

dude, that's a peccary. a carpincho looks like a huge groundhog.

Both are at the San Diego zoo.

Vox - did you get anything made out of Carpincho when you were in BsAs? If so, what did you get and where did you go to get it?

Thanks

Big, kinda cute rodent. Thin but very strong leather (like kangaroo) with a suede-y finish (unlike kangaroo).

The man who tended this animal said it was a carpincho, which I'd never heard of until that trip. However, I've checked a few pictures and agree with you. Thanks for your zoological correction.

he probably figured you would not know any better.

Weird, I know peccary is native to argentina, but most places down there do not seem to sell peccary goods, and instead deal in carpincho.
