I think that's alright. It gives it room to air out too. I use the woodlore epic shoe trees just because I like the look and they're cheap. But really as long as you have anything, you're good.

Just got these Carminas. There's an unsightly blemish on the toe-cap, can this be fixed? If not, might have to return them :(

I think that would bother me too. Is that calf or shell? Perhaps you should send a message to Betty along with a pic to see what she has to say about it.

Thanks, that's a good suggestion. I emailed her. They're calf. Someone told me it could be a burn that the leather suffered from the machine polishing process at the end.

When I buy direct from Betty (or anyone, for that matter) I tell her to personally inspect the shoes for any such marks, scuffs etc. I also ask her to take a pic and email me before shipping...she's always obliged.

Betty strikes again!

Yes definitely return those and complain. I received a pair of shell boots with a literal slice on them (see spoiler). Betty exchanged them but i did ask her to inspect the boots beforehand, i doubt she did it. with what you paid for the shoes you should get first quality with no issues.

The back of that doesn't have Carmina's common quarter-circle tab at the top of the heel stitching. I don't know if that's on every pair of their shoes, so I can't be sure.

Doesn't look like either. Andrew Lock's shoes are made in Spain by a mystery company. Same manufacturer?

I want to order directly from Carmina, but have a few questions:

1) Is it safe / trustworthy?
2) Will they use my Paypal address?
3) Does Paypal charge any fees for paying in Euro?
4) Do you get charged customs to ship to US? Has anybody?

Thanks!

yes

depends, if you use paypal's conversion then yes they charge and make money on the exchange rate but if you have a credit card like i do that does not charge a foreign exchange fees you can opt for the credit card to take care of the exchange rate
4) Do you get charged customs to ship to US? Has anybody?
i did not, they use DHL, not sure if others have

hope that helps, also i think there is a checkout flow on their website now so you may be able to avoid this process

A few people have told me it should polish out and blend with patina. I'm hearing mixed things.

dude if you paid around 500 for the shoe/boot it should come flawless! sorry but consumers should hold the retailers to their standards.
