Can someone help recommend me a size for a James Perse tee shirt

I'm 5'8, 178 lbs. (usually weigh between 172-178), neck size is 15.5 32/33 in dress shirt and jeans size is size 32 but I'm big in the waist/butt area(lucky brand jeans; vintage straight cause the jeans are classic cut). So I have a couple robert barakett t shirts in medium but the cut on them is regular fit. The jp tees are slim/trim. Can any of you guys recommend if I should get a medium (2) or large (3). I remember I got a jp tee in medium but felt kind of tight in the waist (think it was trim fit; style for that tee was really tight cause of the color on it). I would really appreciate it. No Nordstrom near me and it's a pain in the butt returning things online. Here are the 2 tees I'm interested in:
