Can somebody recommend a good tailor in the Baltimore/DC/NOVA area?

I live basically in the middle of no where, but I drive the 270 corridor every day.

I could go Frederick, any where down 270, DC or Northern VA. The lady at the dry cleaner just never seems to get it right for me.

Just need some basic things done. Taking shirts in, hemming dress pants, alterations to a suit jacket.

I've been pretty happy with London Tailor in Bethesda, which is run by a charming Korean couple. However, popular consensus is that Field's, at Wisconsin and S, is the best around. They do alterations, but they're more known for making the garments than fixing them.

How much does fields charge for small jobs like a simple pant hem?

If you don't mind actually going into downtown DC, Melvin of Melvin's Tailor is a great tailor. A bit surly and eccentric, but really knows his stuff, and is not nearly as expensive as Field's or Christopher Kim.

I use Roland's Tailors in McLean. Korean couple runs it and it is located on Old Dominion. Nice folks.

Melvin does a lot of the work himself, certainly the most important parts.

I can't remember exactly, but he's the most expensive in the city. Maybe something like $25, but please don't quote me on that.

I too have used Melvin in the past and been happy with his work. Surly/eccentric is right, but I also find him really funny.

More recently I've had a more ambitious bunch of alterations done by Mr. Moon at Chevy Chase Custom Tailor on Connecticut. I recommend him very highly.

He does the work himself. The $4 an hour girl is a DL extra.

He also offers MTM shirts and suits, but I know for a fact he outsources that work.
