What I posted are two distinct questions. The responses makes it seem as though one could post anything as a watermark, when we both know that is not true. It would not be permitted to use an email address as a watermark even if it matched the username. This is the essence of my question. Where is the line drawn?

The policy is crystal clear: watermarks are not allowed. Is this too complex? They may not be enforcing it now, but as @capnwes said, they might in the future.

Of course, your account won’t be shut down for a watermark, but it might if eBay thinks you’re trying to get potential buyers to contact you outside of eBay.

Is that actually the case? You are using watermarks, as are many other sellers in the men's clothing and shoes categories. The cited ebay statement a few pages back stated that the rule disallowing watermarks was never finalized.

If you know your version of the answer, why are you asking questions?

I want to follow the rules so that I don't get banned from the ebay platform. Ebay does not joke around about people that try to make convert sales off their platform. I'm genuinely asking a question here. I'll change the question so its not perceived to be such a stupid question.

Can I list my (matching ebay username) instagram handle "@xxxxxxxxxxxx on instagram", in my listings, as a watermark or otherwise?

No I don't. That is why I am asking the question so specifically. I'm weighing out the advantages/disadvantages. I already have the sets of photographs saved, one with watermark and one without, its fairly trivial at my volume to change from one to the other using garagesale.

That’s not how the policy was written. I have not put watermarks on my images since they declared that policy.

I’d suggest you research this yourself. I’m out.

I agree in general, but there are things you are not allowed to put in your watermark. As previously stated, you're not allowed to put your contact information in the watermark.

To get around watermarks, I'm just going to lay a business card on the items I'm photographing. ha.
