Brown Belt - Which Shade of Brown?

I currently own a medium brown dub monk and I'm having a dark brown oxford being delivered in a couple of weeks. I've read various threads on the subject of matching belts and shoes and I'm in the camp that says if the color is close enough, the belt/shoe combo is fine.

Now, I'm having a hard time deciding between purchasing a medium brown belt or a dark brown belt. If at all possible I would like for this single belt to pull double duty for both of these shoes (and other future medium brown and dark brown shoes). I would be wearing this with wool trousers in a business casual environment or occasionally with suits.

In the event that I get a tan colored shoe in the future, I figure I will have to get a new tan colored belt.

So which one? Medium brown or dark brown? Or is it really necessary that I get both? I'd rather get one if I can.

Seeing photos of both shoes would help but why not shoot for a belt colour in between the two pair. Welcome to Stylefoum.

For me, it's not even the tone of brown so much as other qualities such as width or gloss/matte/texture. Any shade of brown close enough will work. But if you're wearing a 1" glossy textured belt with casual brown shoes it might be noticeable.

I think brown belts fall into two general categories - light reddish brown and dark brown. I personally think if you're wearing reddish brown shoes then wear the associated belt and vice versa.

The exact shade of belt and shoes don't have to match but if you were a reddish brown with a darker brown it clashes.
