Barkers might be worth checking out.

It costs a little more than NPS/Solovair but my firm favourite a little further away is Cheaney in Desborough. You can't access their main collection there but they always have a good selection of seconds, end of line/samples and factory shop exclusives.

I also had some luck at Loakes outlet in Market Harborough a few months ago (including Bedale and Lytham boots). It is variable though so to it pays to gen up on their product ranges a little before you go so you can ask for what you want.

Trickers, Crockett and Church's all have outlets in town.

In Rushden, there are sadly no showrooms but Sanders let me buy direct recently when I asked on the phone. I think Paul Sargent's have said they will sell from their factory too. I don't know whether Grensons would.

How can I explain my wife that I need to visit those factories?

Maybe as part of my Mini proyect (buying an old 68 Austin Mini and bringing it to mint condition) I can tell her that flying to England is mandatory and some SF will help me to find elusive parts.

That is a very rewarding but expensive hobby. I did it with a Peugeot 205 GTI a few years ago and, surprisingly, I found in England more parts than in France for that iconic model.

My wife 'helps' me choose. She even has 3 pairs of Cheaney herself. She also likes Shoe Embassy in Oxford which sells Italian and Spanish made brogues and boots in garish colours. There is also a Loake shop in Oxford and a Cheaney shop in Cambridge.

To be honest if I was visiting London from another country it would be better to visit Jermyn Street. The rail and taxis would soon swallow up any savings. On the other hand if you have use of a car, Northamptonshire is around an hour from tourist destinations like Oxford, Cambridge and Stratford. All around 50-60 miles from London. Northampton Town itself is mostly run down now these days although some reasonable restaurants and specialist shops you search for them. People visit for the cricket or the rugby and Church's is very near the rugby ground. Nearby but out of town there are motor sport events at Silverstone, horse racing at Towcester, and drag racing at Santapod. Newmarket horseracing racing is just outside of Cambridge. Some people visit the area for narrowboat canals. Some of the smaller market towns and villages are pretty such as Brackley, Oundle and just over the border in Stamford and my favourite Market Harborough. Rushden Lakes shopping park is fairly good for mainstream fashion stores.

Hey y'all, I'm looking for some advice. I just got in these Wesco Packers today, ordered back at the beginning of April.

Long wait aside, for the price (just about $600) I'm a bit unimpressed with the finishing. As you can see in the pictures, the stitching on the sole seems very rough and ends abruptly as if it was chewed off. On the bottom sole, one shoe has two nails and the other has three. Lastly, I had asked for the heel height to be about 1.5" based on another pair of boots I had, but these clock in at 2", which is a bit more than I was looking for. I guess its something I can get used to, but it feels a bit much. Do you all think these are normal and just part of the process of getting hand made boots, or should I email Wesco and see what they think?

Is there some reason you are looking for a dress shoe welt on a work boot?

Nothing on those looks out of the ordinary at that price point with the type of product you ordered (dressy work boot).
