I figured you'd say that! I would suspect my constant exposure to the Alden design language is part of why I have grown to prefer it

lol...yeah, that Alden thread echo chamber does have its side effects.

Also, Alden’s glaze is pigmented for “color correction”. That’s why Alden’s color 8 is almost black when new.

On some of their color 8s I’ve seen that have been sun lightened, the shell underneath isn’t of the best quality.

It hasn't always been

I would be infinitely happier with a lighter burgundy, imperfections and all, to begin with. If they’re having to resort to lower quality shells across the board, I understand. But, for example, Brett Klein’s #fadedboot looks great despite the imperfections he points out.

I’m doing what he did and finding dye variations on some panels. I really don’t mind either.

@RogerP what are your go-to winter boots? Looking for ideas as well since we're on the topic of shearling.

I wear all my boots through the winter, but none are shearling as I have naturally warm feet and those would be way too hot when worn indoors.

For sloppy weather my go-to boots are my Zug Galways. After that, Chromexcel or grain. Anything with a leather sole is reserved for dry days.

I wonder when they started doing that?
It seems like it's gotten progressively darker over the last 5-7 years.

These were either 2014 or 2012 and are pretty much as they started:
