^^ You should check their website "Vintage Shoe Addict"^^

You may want to message him directly. As you may or may not
know, these are pretty rare (Lotus Veldtschoen Boots).

To weigh in on the other discussion, I had Edward Green's for Holland & Holland
last year on the Medway or Ridgeway sole and was pretty happy in
Minnesota winter. Now I have CJ Coniston with Danite, looking forward to
seeing how they fare in this climate.

His site seems to be down, does he have an email?

Note to self......follow these instructions when pre orders change.

1. Take a deep breath
2. Step away from the computer/smart phone
3. Do not press send
4. Make a rational decision and proceed to acquire awesome boots.
5. Acquire said boots and wear the $hit out of them.

I guess that means that you went for them??

Gentlemen, I'm interested in joining the boot-wearing ranks. I'm looking for a sort of all-arounder to test the waters with. Dress attire in the winter months is typically slacks and odd sportcoats. I am not in a business formal setting where hard sartorial rules apply...I get compliments on my 10 year old AE pennies that are beaters I got before I even knew how to take care of shoes.

Started out liking the C&J Northcote. I'm also thinking about making this my first shell purchase so I looked at the Harlech (love the burgundy BB Peal & Co. version) but $1K is a little more than I am willing to spend this go around. This is my first time surpassing the AE stratosphere in terms of price. I'd like to stay below $700 which seems to relegate me to used shell. A pair of used Lindricks is an attractive but seemingly rare option, and I was also intrigued by this Alden offering via the bay:

I generally prefer the sleekness of the C&Js vs Alden, but I do like the commando sole and the #8 of the Alden. I'd like something for the colder months (DC area) that I can wear with slacks or jeans. I'd wear these in the rain and light snow so I'm looking for something that can withstand frequent and hard wearing.

Any thoughts and considerations on these options or any others from the more well-versed boot wearing crowd would much appreciated.

I know you mentioned commando sole, but you can not go wrong with the Alden 4060 (Straight cap toe in #8 shell). It can be had new from The Shoe Mart for less than $700. I think one retailer may do it on Commando. Look for model 4060HC (commando sole and speedhooks).

It appears the 4060HC vendor is Alden of Washington DC, perhaps a field trip is in order

I am not set on the commando sole, but it seems the best suited for wet / cold weather from what I have read up to this point. Do speed hooks make a quality-of-life impact to the point where I shouldn't consider a full lace-up for regular boot wearing?

The commando isn't really all that great for wet conditions. It's basically just a rubber layer and partial at that...I mean it helps, but It is no way waterproof.

The 4060 on double leather and all eyes is the quintessential Alden boot in my eyes. It's perfection. For me that boot is a must have in all eyes.

Appreciate the thoughts. I thought a shell boot with a rubber sole would be my best for a smart boot fit for some winter weather. I'll check out the Alden store in DC and see if I fall in love with the 4060 in the same way you have. What type of sole do you usually trek around in during the winter?
