Blazers- the metal button question

While I am sure there is a thread somewhere about this, and no I did not use the search function, but that is mostly because I value up-to-date and interactive exchanges over reading "dead white men" writings (irony sign post- no need for anti-living and breathing minority lesbian comments)

After the caveats here is my predicament:

I just bought what I think is a nice (2 button, single breasted) Blazer -mentioned in another thread. It is Boss Selection (made in Turkey); so yes nothing to write home about, but at 299 euros on a 969 euro RRP I am hoping you can give me a break for now.

It is as "blazerly" as they usually come but alas it does not sport metal buttons.

So my question is: should I swap for metal buttons and go "full blazer mode" or keep as it is-
what am I signalling via either choice?

Note that I intend it to use it as my "prized" blazer (poor me)

black, I am guessing horn

Come on guys help out over here, don't be tired to revisit an old issue- maybe things have changed, maybe you did not answer a previous thread on a related/same issue.

If one only did what was completely new then might as well not show up for work

If it were me, I'd probably swap them for MoP buttons. Still a blazer but not as hearty/Lt. Col. Ret. as metal buttons, especially gold-coloured ones. Personally, I only use metal buttons to signal an affiliation.

MoP buttons are much better for non-sporting events, especially those indoors, IMO. They look quite elegant, are relatively inexpensive and make it clear that you are not wearing an orphaned suit jacket.

ok but I read somewhere else that a blazer being the only coat a gentleman can really personalise then you should go for metal buttons.

Bottom line, in the mind of a style "civilians" are metal buttons a necessary condition for blazerness? or are they aware a Blazer can go without?

Also,

It is as "blazerly" as they usually come but alas it does not sport metal buttons.

Split the difference and get silver or silver and black ones. Like he says above, you avoid the retired Lt.Col. look!

This is what I was talking about when I said I only used metal buttons to signal affiliation. If you want to wear buttons with the badge of your regiment, school, club or whatever, that's one thing. What I think is a bit naff is the generic metal buttons you so often see with things like ducks or golf clubs on them.

Its really all about what you like. I have blazers with ivory, metal, brown and and dark horn. I like them all. What do YOU like?

look it is 3.27 am in the UK, where I am now, so I am not about to post any pics.

It is a standard navy blue coloured blazer.

If it is any help it is at least half canvassed (yes I did the pinch test and my own personal "look at the guy wearing the jacket test" (see canvassing thread) in the mirror

So my question is simple: if you have an "expensive", single breasted, two button, navy coloured "blazer" with what appears to be horn black buttons , should or should you not put some metal buttons instead and what is the difference- not to me, as I don't care- but to those around me?

If you don't care then you don't care what other people think. Go with your gut preference and bollocks to everyone else.

you don't need to think about this for long to understand the difference:

- I dont care what the buttons are, as in if I was wearing this blazer naked by myself in my empty house

- I do care what the buttons are as in I do plan on going out and meet people while wearing the blazer (not naked mind you)
