I was going to wear my black knit tie with my tan cotton suit (as recommended in another thread) but what should I do for shoes and a belt? I was planning to wear brown obviously. I'm second guessing the black and considering going navy tie instead.

Thoughts?

I'd wear black shoes and belt if you're gonna rock the khaki suit-white shirt-black tie look.

+1 and the navy tie with brown shoes/belt would look better.

I think they're both good looks, though the black tie/black shoes/black belt really only works with a white shirt IMO. The navy/brown/brown works with a lot of colors. I think black/tan/white looks great when done right, though.

Yes I planned to go white oxford cloth club collar shirt regardless but I'm not sure how crazy I am about black shoes with tan. I'll have to try it out.

Thanks, all.

Well, seeing as you have the Mad Men logo as your avatar, I think I see where this look is coming from (this is totally a compliment, love the style in the show).

I think it depends on the black shoes, but another thing I'd try is a light cognac color. I think too dark a brown paired with a black tie won't look quite right.

Something like this might have the right vintage appeal:

and something like this might give a good casual vibe:

And this is all wrong (as beautiful a shoe as it is), too sleek/polished/formal:

Thanks for all the feedback folks. I'm not sure if I'm gonna go with the black tie because I'm not crazy about the black shoes with tan cotton, at least not the ones I have, they are probably too formal for this type of outfit.

I'll likely go with the navy.

I'd go black knit, white ocbd, brown shoes. Like a walnut brown.
It's one of my favorite combos.

This is a combo I like, too. Even a tan similar to Alden's whiskey or ravello would like nice depending upon the shade of the khaki suit.

Count me in the club that thinks black shoes just doesn't look right with a tab suit (regardless of tie color). Brown shoes is the way to go, IMO, but i prefer more of a brandy color.

I generally don't wear black shoes unless I am in a tuxedo.
