What would a simple, solid black double-breasted suit be good for? standard 6x2 configuration, peak lapels. no grosgrain trimming or anything like that, just solid black wool.

Please let me know. i have an opportunity to pick one up for really cheap but just wondering what the usage would be that I can get out of it. thanks.

Now a dark navy DB like that...

Not a fan.

I cannot imagine wearing such a suit.

When I went to select my first suit on my own as a teenager, Mom sent me with simple instructions: No black and no double breasted. I naturally went for a black DB.

It was a terrible mistake. I have the right coloring for it, presumably, but it still looked awful. Part of it was my age, but there's a reason you don't see them.

Mom was absolutely horrified. But owning it was the best lesson. Never again.

Black suits aren't versatile and not really appropriate in an office environment, but if you're going to get a black suit to wear for evening socializing a double breasted would be the ONLY way I'd go.
