I realise compared to some I am a bit of a cheapskate but was a little shocked this afternoon when i saw STF 501's at JC Penney for 46.00 in Iowa.

That seems ridiculously high to me, and so I was just curious if this is what they tend to go for retail?

I am on vacation and saw 4 pairs today, but rarely see them in department stores at home and was going to try and get a brief overview of what they cost in different areas of the country.

thanks

I believe $46.00 is tagged retail. Sears has them for 36.99-39.99 regular price. www.sears.com contrary to popular conception, they are not dirt cheap $20 jeans. I have never seen them less than 29.99 except during my local Sears going out of business sale, when they were something like $27 plus tax.

I've never seen them for more than $30 at sears.

I think it, like most stuff, depends on what part of the country.

Still, department stores tend to always sell stuff at recomened retail prices.

I'm cheap, but I find it funny to debate over five or ten dollars. For the difference of $10 I'd much prefer going into a local store next time I was passing by and be able to look, feel, and maybe even try on the product. If it is a hassle to go to a local store just order them from whatever online store is easiest; I think far too many of us fail to account for time when determining deals.

Yeah, factory tag is always $46, but if you ever pay full price at JC Penney, you're a fool, because 90% of their merchandise is on sale 90% of the time. I think they still have the sale going on that's buy one pair of Levi's get the next half off, if nothing else. I'd wouldn't pay over $34 for a pair of STFs if I were you. It shouldn't take too much looking to accomplish that.

And what were you doing in Iowa? Were you in Council Bluffs? Because if you were actually a ways into Iowa I'd say you should go to the Amana Colonies outlet mall about a hour east of Des Moines, that's where I got my Skinners for $30.
