A "Ricky" jacket is a 50s style casual jacket (sometimes they're also called "Ike" jacket), they usually were made from rayon gabardine. Anything with argyles, ski motif, diamonds, kasuri, or a black/pink color scheme were the "collectible" ones that can fetch obscene $$$ these days. The tan colors are the dime-a-dozen style. I used to collect vintage ones years ago and remind of a harrington in terms of how you'd wear it with. Here's some photos of Ricky jackets on display at Dry Bones in tokyo:

-1 for gratuitous use of own pictures to make a highly nuanced point.

I sport those all the time. APC did a bitchin' one in a wool plaid from last year almost identical to the one RedLantern posted, which I lurv. Dickies makes a good cheap gas-station. Carhartt 'Detroit' has that down so well, it's not even noticed - although APC also did a great job at their interpretation on that.

I'd personally love to see more of this come back, and not just be a fad ressurection, like swing dancing (don't tell me you tried that too, GetSmart...).

I also want to see post-war civvy adaptions of GI styles get more 'spect. The 40's and 50's are, to me, the only real eras of 'American' style. At least the ones the rest of the world identifies as created by America.

But I get +100 for having a pic at my disposal to make that nuanced point

"try" swing dancing? No, I just do it. Been cuttin a rug since mid 90s, if I say so myself I'm a pretty damn good jitterbugger

Finally, you make some sense!! This part I totally agree with and will keep you from being banned anytime soon.

Okay. +1 for also not gratuitously mentioning this was from your "trip to Japan" (un-huh..).

My girl's an ex ballerina and also did/does swing. Loves it. Also learned Salsa with some Israelis. If Israelis can salsa and GetSmart swing dances, I need to re-think my attitudes about disco too.

I'll save the 50's reference as my get out of jail free card. Thx ;-)
