Do people generally go up one size with AA? I noticed on their website that some of the items shrink an average of one size when put in the dryer. Is that true for all of their items?

I'm 5'8", 38" chest, broad shoulders, 30" waist. Should I get the small or medium? I'm normally a small.

Medium. My smalls measure closer to 36" around the chest after a wash and dry.

I agree with getting a medium too. FYI we are about the same height so the shirts will be long.

If your a 38" chest and 30" waist with broad shoulders AA will probably be a poor fit on you. Your the same size as me and their tees are really loose around the waist on me in a medium.

You're probably a schedium. Sorry, the sizing is so inconsistent you kind of have to try it on for yourself. I have some Smalls which are kind of big, and some XS which are kind of tight, I'm awkwardly inbetween.

You'll bulge out of sz small tees and fit somewhat well into mediums, though the medium will most likely be a bit long and will tent slightly.

I'm about your size (with a couple inches of height on you) and I bought a medium and large to see the fit. The large fits really big on me (I sized up), but after trying on the medium it's also kinda big on me too (mainly around the stomach). Otherwise it's kind of loose-fitting. ALl in all I'd get the medium, even if it were to shrink it'd be pretty negligible...

Is there any way around the tenting and awkwardness that almost every tee has on me? My shoulders and just overall build (6'3", 150 lbs dripping wet, pretty broad shoulders) make sizing a pain with pretty much every brand I've tried including AA

I've found Alternative Apparel's "perfect" fit to tent less than AA's fit in the same size. The length issue is still there, but I admittedly just received the Alt Ap shirts and have yet to wash them for the first time. The material is also stretchier than what AA uses, so my guess is you could more safely size down.

Also, if you have a relatively short torso and/or money to burn, check out Michael J Krell's bamboo shiz.

For the OP, in American Apparel, you would be a Medium most likely. The waist/stomach area unfortunately would be a bit too roomy for you.
