Found a pair of AE Greenwich wholecuts on EBay in sz14. It was a happy day. Only a couple more wholecuts to find.

OptoDoc, I have the Rutledge in walnut. As some have posted here, the walnut isn't the traditional walnut color of most AE shoes. I hope the pics I upload will show it clearly. I have to say that wearing this shoe, it's the most comfortable shoe I've worn. Very soft leather and fits like a glove. I love my Pakr Avenues and my McAllisters too. But this is even better. I'd like to get them in black next. Or perhaps the Harrison in black? Anyone have the Harrison and any feedback?

I wish my Opto doc dressed as nicely as I bet you do. I like when I see a professional who looks the part!

I'll get to shining this evening.

I measured the uppers in a very inexact way, but came up with roughly 4 inches for my 8 last Delrays in a 12D and 4.25 for my 5 last shoes.  Not scientific in the least bit, but indicative of a difference in width.  Curious to hear what you find.

Looks like you are right. I measured my Fifth Streets over the weekend and they are 4.25" across the sole. Not sure why my 5 last shoes feel a bit narrower at the widest part of the shoe.

Finally! In Atlanta on business and they have an Allen Edmonds store!! Having a really hard time deciding between a Franciscan in Walnut, and a Flatiron in Bourbon- will either of these look good with charcoal and navy, or is the darker bourbon a better bet?

On an unrelated note, can someone tell me if my venerable JM's captoes pictured below are Goodyear welted? They certainly look like it...

Thanks! Though i'm still not sure why BB doesn't say they're made by AE on their website for this specific shoe while it does for some others. Maybe AE doesn't make them anymore, but they used to, so thats why they are selling them from the AE outlets? Who knows. These are the ones i'm referring to.

Fear not, those are definitely AE's. I noticed way back when they first introduced them, they didn't mention AE initially. Later, they began marketing them as "Allen Edmonds expressly for Brooks Brothers" or something of that nature. The ones you are looking at are probably just remnants of the initial offerings.

Brooks Brothers sells many pairs of AEs that are not advertised as such:

And of course, some that are branded as such. I originally compiled this link at the Dappered.com forums.

Kentyman, quick update on these shoes. I have a pair of walnut that I bought about 4 weeks before these and have worn about 14 times. I've worn my merlot only twice and I notice a ridge in the same place as yours. On both sets I'm getting the normal creasing across the vamp where I would expect. But on the merlot I'm also getting creasing across the toe in the same spot you saw your ridge. It doesn't bother me at all but just thought it was interesting. Both sets are same size and width. The only thing I can think of is that the walnut are traditional leather sole and the merlot are the newer combo sole. Maybe the absorbs force differently when I walk and therefore creases the shoe at a different spot. I love the combo sole, FWIW!

Thanks for the update. Do you have a picture of creasing there? My ridge is actually convex instead of concave, so I wouldn't expect it to crease there. It actually feels like there's too much structure underneath that is pushing out.

As for the sole, mine was a regular leather sole, so I don't think it's it's a problem with the combination tap sole.

Can anyone comment on the Brooks Brothers strand in dark brown? In the picture on the BB website, they have this awful sheen to them, and I cant find in person pictures via google search. I ended up going with brown sandersons because they looked better in the pics, but Im wondering if I should order the strands too and just return whichever ones I dont like
The BB Strand in dark brown is a very rich brown in person. Much better than the photos.

Hi DG, here are a couple pics of mine. I love them, and of the 9 pair of AE I own, they are no doubt one of my favorites. Look amazing with a navy suit, but I also wear them with a charcoal suit, grey slacks, etc

For your consideration, please see the following picture of my Brown Waxy Leather Long Branches. The were worn on holiday in Banff this past weekend. The harshest element they were exposed to was light rain. They turn this whitish, distressed-looking shade each time they're exposed to adverse weather. They did it in the snow this winter as well.

Thoughts? The other boot has been treated with Renovateur. It always does the trick, but I would like to know if there's something I can treat them with to prevent this down the road.

Thanks.

I took this today but it's probably not detailed enough to see well but if you look at the left foot you can see it start to crease on the same line as the stitching. It doesn't do this on the right shoe but my left is larger so that could have something to do with it. It makes it seem like the toe is a bit raised. It's not the most perfect place for a crease but that's where the shoe wants to crease. My walnut with leather sole in the same size only creases along the vamp.

Looks like you're on the same hunt as I am! I picked up a pair of Greenwich's myself a few weeks ago. Now I'm looking for the Manhattan in chili or brown, Westgate in black and Fairfax in merlot.
