Black Friday
IMHO, the problem is partly Paramus and partly Outlet Malls in general (especially in Northern NJ). In this day and age of internet sales, it's a pain to go to Paramus, deal with Bergan County and Rt.17 traffic. Truth is, for mainline AE (e.g. non-shoebank) there are 5 Manhattan locations and the Short Hills Mall location that are less of a pain to get to for customers in Morris, Summerset (and even Bergen) counties, versus that outlet mall that requires dealing with 17 and 4. I've literally never gone there for exactly that reason - I'd rather saw a foot off than deal with driving up there. As the crow flies, it's 19 miles away, but it always takes at least 45 min to get up there, due to it being the one place that has no direct path (other than local roads, which take forever to traverse). It just isn't a good location, especially given AE's target customer which around here, to be blunt, is more likely to shop at the Short Hills Mall or hit one of the stores in NYC (both of which I've done pretty regularly). And just like that, Paramus is no more
How AE closes down while Pelle Line stays in business is beyond me.
Yeah, but the finish on those is holding up really well. Wait until they look like this:Yes! And I love them for it! One day I'm going to follow your instructions and strip off this polished cobbler.
I actually don’t think most people know that 90% of what a factory outlet store sells consists of products specifically made for sale on the factory outlet store. People are not aware that these outlet products are made with cheaper materials, fewer stitches, and limited selection of colors and patterns. They think the stores are selling last-year’s overstock or irregular products. For AE, this is true, as F2 is irregular.IMHO, the problem is partly Paramus and partly Outlet Malls in general (especially in Northern NJ). Then there's the broader problem of Outlet Malls and AE: most "Outlet Stores" today are nothing of the sort, they're simply brand-name retail stores selling a low-end product line. AE, on the other hand, is selling seconds that, while discounted, are not cheap. Once upon a time, that's what people understood outlet stores to be, but I don't think that's true anymore. Now it's pretty much understood it's cheaper versions of some brand-name tag. So AE's shoebank thing is just out-of-step with the current outlet store trends.
I'm genuinely surprised that store survived as long as it did.
This is awesome!Ok, so after three solid weeks of Long Branch abuse with the occasional Normandy thrown in, time to clean and condition them before they run away all by themselves.
The before:

The tools:

First, attack those filthy laces:

Yuck:

Then some saddle soap:

The “smokey grey” LB’s get boot wax:

And now to pick some laces off of the lemon tree. Who knew laces grew on trees?

And the result:

Keep in mind, these are my work boots. That is what I use them for. They are not meant to be shiny dress boots. I have other pairs for that. Saddle soap, conditioner, and maybe a little polish to cover up the toes. Other than that, these are ready for more work when needed.
Here is why they are work boots - nail/screw protection!

And here is what I wore to clean them up.

Happy Friday gents! Have a great weekend!!
Perhaps you're right. I definitely think the primary problem with that Paramus store was it's location. Had they put it just about anywhere else in NJ (including a different part of Paramus) it might have done better.I actually don’t think most people know that 90% of what a factory outlet store sells consists of products specifically made for sale on the factory outlet store. Wearing Brogue Suede Strands today on a very windy day in Santa Monica. Clouds of dust were blowing everywhere.

For fans of "A-E In The Wild" pictures, in Palisades Park in Santa Monica enroute to Ye Olde King's Head to get an Eccles Cake on a cold (by local standards) and windy (by any standards) day.

For fans of beer pictures in shoe thread saw this at Trader Joe's. Don't know anything about beer but do know some things about Santa Monica.
The can says "Beach Brewed" and "90404". The west end of the 90404 Zip Code is Lincoln Blvd, which is around a dozen blocks from the beach.
Looked online. The Santa Monica Brew Works is located at 1920 Colorado, which is next to the street car tracks around twenty blocks from the beach.
Maybe "Beach Brewed" means they make it out of Santa Monica Bay sea water.

For fans of pictures of Santa Monica Bay sea water in shoe threads, there weren't many people at the beach today around 1:00pm.
