I never thought about this before, but a Bayfield in Chili shell, antique reverse split welt, on a JR sole seems to be what I need.

That's pretty much what I'm thinking as well.

So @ae_ashley since you're teasing us with sample pics, I'm imagining that chili would kinda look like either ravello or the lighter cognac. Not sure if you are familiar with these colors. Is this a crazy thought?

After the tanning process, Horween shaves areas of the shell down further to create a ton of natural variance. Described as burgundy, but it personally looked significantly brown to me. I'm waiting on more sample photos myself, and then i'll share for sure. I know you guys are dying to see what they both look like, and i'm with you. We had to make a tough call- do we share and give you more notice without sample photos? Do we wait and give you less notice WITH sample photos? We made a call. Lol.

I've been told to think not unlike garnet, but slightly lighter and a little more brown. We'll see though!

My guess is a fair bit darker based on the fact that there aren't any limits on the number of shells available. Cognac can get pretty light.

That might be worth making a trip to Chicago for if I could find a job here in the next few weeks.

Very helpful, thanks man. Didnt understand what this was at 1st but Vibergs explanation is good. So it's a normal shell but after dying they shave some of the top layers if the shell to expose the natural parts and/or less fully dyed parts. Pretty cool.
