All professional sports have profound flaws. Rugby is played in bad faith. Look at all the penalties: you can't tell me a professional rugby union player doesn't know what constitutes a penalty. The laws aren't complicated. At the breakdown players are violating the rules with the expectation they'll get away with a few infringements, and those infringements missed by the referee can mean the difference between winning and losing. Paradoxically, the penalties given away because of this bad faith can also lose you the game. Take McCaw and Pocock - they're among the best players around, but they bend the rules like crazy.
