I believe Horween uses Venetian to finish their shell.

Finishing is another thing since its a one time thing. In any case, people go through alot of trouble getting lighter colored shell. I dont think its a good idea using the cream unless its absolutely necessary since it will cause the leather to darken over time with repeated use unless thats what you want. The darkening is subtle so its hard to tell right away unless you pay close attention.

I see.  Ive used a little bit it on my natty shell to work out some scratches and it did darken which is why I was wondering why you were using it.

That's good to know. I thought shell was more impervious to darkenening from it than say something like natty CXL (which I've personally seen darken quite a bit, but with that it was the look I was going for).

This is Nick's quote on the matter "Many swear by Renovateur (Saphir), but my personal recommendation for conditioning shell (when it seldom needs it) is Venetian Creme."

http://www.styleforum.net/t/204592/venetian-cream-for-shell-cordovan

I don't do a regimen of leaving it on for a period of time like I've seen recommended by some - basically once I've applied a thin film all over the boots I go to brushing right away, with the main idea of getting it into areas that are creasing and somewhat dry (these were getting there). Then I start w/ the t-shirt. It's about a 5 minute process. It's usually like a once every 10 wears thing for me, but I might make it more like twice a year with your feedback here. Thanks. :D

Well this is interesting...

From Palmer Trading Company's Instagram: PTC x @vibergboot BAD SEED BOOT in black waxed flesh with ten nickel eyelets #blackonblack #allblackeverything #viberg #palmertrading #menswear #stylecouncil #nickcave LIVE ON OUR WEBSTORE TOMORROW 1:00 pm EST

But when you look closer into it... It's a photo that's been intentionally desaturated to appear all black and grey.

The truth? They're releasing two makeups, the "Bad Seed" and "The Creeper" — and neither of them are fully black (meaning dyed-through leather or black leather midsoles apart from the Vibram one).

Interesting as they are, it's a ****** move to mislead and build up customer anticipation that way.

7 months of nearly daily wear on these Black CXL Service Boots. I've scuffed up the heels on several drunken bar hopping nights, but that's quite alright with me.

How in the world are you people keeping your boots so ... unblemished?

The are my 3Sixteen Stealths bought the day they came out and worn MAYBE twice a week 4-5 hours indoors max each time. At the rate they're fading, they'll be natural CXL before the SF GTMO orders are even available...

^Weird... Goodlooking boots though. Based on past evidence from Palmer Trading, Price could be pretty steep on these. And no returns, unless their policy has changed.

I was thinking of this contrast too. Shows how variable CXL wear can be, even with Viberg.

Well guys,

I couldn't take it any more. I think I started contemplating my boot purchase back in April when I was looking at Alden's. A search for cordovan lead me here and then I couldn't go back. I wanted a bunch of things I don't think I'll get in the foreseeable future so I'm tapping out. The last pair of size 10 Brown CXL boots from Brooklyn Clothing Company are on their way to my house.

With any luck they'll be here Monday?

Needless to say, I'm pumped.

And they better fit!

no joke, i pulled up that website and kind of stared longingly at that very pair on a daily basis. I'm also a size 10, and have also been craving a nice dark boot. I knew some lucky sap would come along and beat me to them. if it had to be someone, I'm glad it was you.

Oh, don't get me wrong. These are my perfect version of a Blue Collar ****-kicker. Great weekend/bar boots. I'm just surprised at the dye fading since I'm not really putting any wear and tear on them myself. I keep them in a dark closet when I'm not wearing them as well, so it's not like they're fading in the sun.

lol, sucks (financially) finding out about Vibergs. Getting a taste with your first pair ... then finding yourself seeking out more.
