Was at The Archive in the city over the weekend and checked out the A1923 double zips that eck and eton have. They look fantastic on the shelf (if you like a super pre-wrinkled looking boot). However... they are the stiffest, least comfortable boots I have ever put on. The treatment is akin to a concrete bath. They are also a total pain ********** to put on and take off (as noted by the staff at Archive as well). When I did put them on, every interior surface was rough and abrasive feeling to my foot, which felt like it was banging around an old, crusty breadbox.

They look great... but caveat emptor.

The staff as always was very nice and helpful. :)

Yea dude I was super set on those until you told me the above over the weekend. These boots sound like the side zip a1923 i tried on at the archive and quickly gave them back because i could not move my foot in them. If thats the case, then I may lean over to another CCP

As I have always said, If i had a row of CCP boots in different leathers i'd be pretty damn happy.

thanks, man. i hope not to have to do anything with them for a while, but good to have a reference in my pocket. i do not plan on vibraming them from the get go. i dont think i will be wearing them often enough to warrant it.

you are welcome

Should also say that there were many nice items in the Archive - definitely worth checking out if you're in the Bay Area. There's also an amazing whiskey store across the street.

I was also told that if Carol decides to have another show, there's a good chance that Archive will attend and thus, will start to carry CCP. :D

I think CCP is exclusive to Maxfields on the west coast and Atelier on the east coast. Before anyone chimes in re: Atelier- I know A is closed but they still have their CCP account.

From what I heard AB doesn't even know what stock they have. I heard they have stuff that is 10+ years old laying around and it's all a bit of a mess in there.

I'll be in Boston this summer to visit my parents (and to eat lobster rolls and fried clams); I'm very interested to see the shop.

that makes it sound like a bad thing. they do have some older seasons' stock in a (private) back room, like eck mentioned, which is actually pretty cool (older season undercover, anyone?!). and their stock is not organized by designer, so you can happen upon things that you otherwise wouldn't look at, or have never heard of. i'd say the experience of browsing there is more like treasure-hunting than it is at other, more minimalist boutiques.

I won't try to argue my point here because ultimately there is nothing here that you say that is untrue.
HOWEVER what I will say (from a serious amount of experience with Augusta footwear) is that within a few wears the leather does soften up pretty quickly and starts to mould to your foot....and ultimately they become one of the best boots in the world.
Already mine are much much easier to put on and take off (and yes I built up a sweat trying to out them on originally and then thought I'd have to kop because I actually couldn't get them off) and the stiff 'concrete' texture goes away pretty quickly once the leather warms up from some wear. The creases also drop out and the ones that would naturally appear just stay there.
Whether you should have to go through this pain and effort on a £1k+ pair of boots is another discussion altogether.....
But what I will say is that once you get through that initial pain/sweat etc etc, what you have left is a seriously amazing boot that will last forever and is a pleasure to wear....and looks amazing.
My 2 cents worth.
Not the strongest argument I've ever put forward because ultimately Augusta aren't for everybody....but there is a pretty devout following and I can promise you we aren't all in it for the pain.
