BUY THEM WHILE THE LAST, dont ask me how i know but this may be the last season of Guidi being stocked at Atelier
Guidi is actually upset with a few retailers for these kind of markdowns

Aesthetics aside, I just feel Guidi's prices are absurd for the product they make compared to shoes that are properly handwelted and finished by hand by some small family operated calzoleria. If what I read is right, without the dyeing process, it takes 2 hours to fully construct a PL2?

I Know a lot of people love guidi but the overly round toe box has never worked for me like the almond toe by ccp/others and for a round toubox I much prefer ma+/cDiem

I dont know how long it takes to make the boots, but aesthetics is a central aspect of many artisanal brands. The value is not always found in the Materials or the construction, but look and design of the products.
then consider that artisanal products are made in generally smaller quantities than more mass produced designer products

I think brands are concerned about prestige and training customers to expect paying less for premium goods, so they are actually dropping several stores who put the products on sale.......Atelier being one of them. there are a few others. bigger ones too

they make a ton of shoes, with many different kind of toe boxes. they also make more structures shoes now than previous. there are actually sqaured toe backzips now..........they look cool

CCP footwear, even though i'ved loved and owned many, is not particularly well made, compared to guidi and CARPE DIEM,
Layer-0 actually makes great footwear, along with MA+
CCP footwear in terms of quality has improved lately but the new designs are MEH,

With how many stores they stock and what seems to be a short time in finishing a pair mostly by machine, I doubt they're doing small quantities compared to that small business shoemaker.

And aesthetics and design are not enough to justify such a price for Guidi IMO. I can still somewhat understand the prices Altieri charges for his m_moria as how it is made by hand and the processes used are quite difficult. The design of hiding the welt with trying to do a one-piece construction using shell for a pair of boots is more involved than hand feeding the uppers to a machine to last it and stitched to the soles.

Im not comparing Guidi to a small manufacturer shoe maker like say James Kerns
and im not sure how long it takes to make a pair of their boots

I honestly dont think we should start reducing the price of goods to simply Materials costs + time taken to makw product. There are other considerations that determine price and it isnt always that simple

I have one pair I bought years ago, most comfortable boot i own now.
Ive had other pairs that were terrible in comfort.
Ive been to the showroom (not this past June) several times and the shoes are great

Re Guidi, I know they have a lot of models and I do like some of them like the combats, PL2, the big chunky lug sole back zips. Never say never but at the moment I feel like Guidi would be the last boot in my wardrobe that I’d reach for. Coupled with the price point that I also feel to be too inflated make them less desirable.

Re CCP, I know there were QC issues in past, and probably still are but I have been fortunate enough not to have any issues (knock on wood). In fact I had issues with CDiem, ma+ and a1923. Either way even with all that I am not deterred to buy from those designers. I’m actually wanting to buy Ma+ backzip with buckle (see below)

The rounded toe looks weird when you wear them but whenever I see pictures of other people in them they look fine. Guidi also has some cool pointier options available; the VG05 comes to mind.

Pulled the trigger on these. I will keep updated w/what actually happens. Fingers crossed.

Hoping they work out for you, I have a soft spot for that gray color.

I'm hoping so, too! The only color I'm lacking is the grey now. Once I get the gray I'll probably stop looking for new pick ups for a bit since that Tornado Prosthetic Drip in Gray was the shoe that got me into avant-garde footwear in the first place and is my grail piece.
