Is the Commando more or less desirable on this makeup? Personally, I'd prefer double leather on rare shell I think. But Commando on shell makes for great rain boots!

Personally, I view most Alden boots as falling on the casual side, and I prefer them with commando soles. Unfortunately, I never got around to calling about these boots until today and there are two people in line in front of me. I doubt I'll get a shot at them.

Just got off the phone with them, and it seemed like I wasn't the first one to call about the Cigar Medallion boot... They only had E widths and apparently they're on the Aberdeen last. Since I'm 9D on Barrie and 9.5D on Plaza, I assume 9.5E on Aberdeen will be too wide? I'm still tempted... On the other hand, now that I posted this the 9.5E will probably be gone in five minutes.

Any idea on what these look like, and what the range of sizes was? I didn't bother asking this morning as I've already got the Cigar CT boots, and I figure a medallion toe will be more to the dressy side.

Probably like these. Few differences though: the pictured boots are black shell on Hampton last with black edging, DC alt wien boots are cigar on Aberdeen with antique edging.

When I spoke to Kathy this Monday she said that those were expected sometime in October. She also mentioned there may be another run of Ravello CT boots. But I think she said the next run may not have a Commando Sole, could be wrong though on that part though.

Leffot is also doing a run of the Grant Lasted Cap Toe boot or what they call the "Daytripper". It is on leather soles. Not sure if it's Waterlock or just Double Leather. But that is what Kathy is talking about.

I prefer commando/other rubber soles on most boot makeups.  I care a little less about it on lighter colored shell because I am less likely to wear the lighter shell in bad weather anyway - and so leather would be fine.  There is a similar buzz on that over on the C&J MTO Central Thread.  This is one of those makeups where I'd be happy either way.  But I still prefer commando by a slight margin.

I mirror this sentiment. As shell color becomes lighter, my chances to wear in inclement weather go to zero.

Retailers are not allowed to "advertise" rare shell colors. You won't get an email blast about them. Unfortunately you just have to know. 'Watch this space' is the best advice I can give. Or just call retailers and ask to hop on lists for makeups you are interested in.

The most current run of Daytripper boots were open for pre-order in 2012, but they are just now going into production. This is why you haven't seen any email blasts or FB posts about ordering. I think a few people were able to get on the order recently -- probably because some of the people on the original pre-order dropped out because they lost all hope that the boot would be made (I was almost there myself). 2.5 years of waiting and we're almost there!
