Ravello this morning
Ravello plaintoes? These are amazing - why couldn't these have been among the designs being confirmed these past few weeks??

Too many creases and rolls develop on plain toes in my opinion. Give us Ravello captoes!

If you're looking for a blucher with some versatility with professional and business casual settings, the LWB is a far better choice than the chukka. An even better choice would be a cap toe blucher on the Aberdeen last which is much sleeker and professional looking. I think this medallion cap toe blucher suits (pun intended I guess...) professional settings even better than the LWB, and can serve nicely in business casual environments as well.
Grey wool suit Casual cotton suit ... with denim
Aberdeen bluchers do go well with suits... I have gone back and forth on the NST blucher with suits. But I am wearing my black cordovan NST bluchers with a suit now and I think it looks great. Color 8 probably would look as good. If Alden decided to make more shortwing bluchers in any last, they would be suit worthy as well (I wear my Marlows with suits). Leffot's "Atom" in Color 8 on the Tremont Last would also make a decent suit shoe.

Here is yet another should I keep these question.

I just got the last 11.5D Alden for Epaulet Salzburger Alpine Grain Shortwing.

I love the grain and the color, but there are two issues that are preventing me from loving these as much as I hoped I would.

First, the alignment of the flaps on the right shoe is off, creating an angle on the lacing and in general looking sloppy. It was the first think I noticed when I tried them on this morning and I think I want to stick to my mantra which is if I don't immediately love it, then abort. Opinions?

Second, the squeak!!! I've never had creaking, squeaky shoes before, but now I can join the masses who have complained. Every movement of my foot creates a creaky noise. I think it can be mitigated with time and lube, but I want to get some experienced opinions on this. Is it due to the grain? I've never bought grain shoes before...

Always a matter of personal tolerance but I would return these for either of the issues you have. Both is truly unfortunate.

Here is the cloudy morning driveway shot for me. The other pic I posted earlier was not a great pic of the shoes, but it did show my little pup. Ravello PTB
I wore this shoe to the birth of both my kids. Guess you could say it's among my faves

The lacing issue would drive me nuts. Those should not have been sold as firsts. I'd send them back.

I would return. The misaligned flaps would bother me.

I contacted Mike at Epaulet and he was very understanding and accommodating. I'll be sending them back. Apparently others have interest in those shoes despite the issue.

Did you try re lacing the shoe? Find it helps quite a bit in straightening out flaps. Shoes were probably stored at awkward angle so laces / flaps could just be misaligned and not stitched incorrectly

I didn't. Please elaborate. I would think that tightening the laces while they're on would pull them in the direction they would stay.

Legal as in criminal law and being in the courtroom, by all means, please wear long wings with a suit.

NYC law firm may not be fans of Derbys with suit but I have witnessed it and it looked very American. I certainly wouldn't distrust my attorney because of his long wings.

Investment bankers have plenty of money to get bals and keep the casual Derbys at home.
Personally I believe it's more important for your shoes no matter what style you prefer, be they oxford or derby, to be clean, as in buffed or shined, and in good repair. Split soles, open tears, or run over heels should not be visible. Just my 2 cents gents.

And I would add to this list the proper use of heel and edge dressing. I have seen otherwise well kept shoes lack this vital component. It is unfortunate.
