I wonder if skinheads had this convo when fashion guys started wearing MA-1s.

Like, on Stormfront, maybe there are articles titled: "What Do You Do When Influencers Come For Your Symbol of Hate?"
One of the best way to strip a symbol of its meaning is by giving it to fashion, which changes the narrative to "This is something that looks cool". In the 80s, I would never have thought that in 2020, we'd all be wearing double riders, and that professional women would be wearing them to the office in part to signal "cool, casual, but made an effort" instead of "This is my man's jacket, and I'm his old lady, so hands off."

Re. Aloha shirts and Bugaloo morons - it's not just the shirt - it's the military style haircuts, the wraparounds, the chinos. There are variations, but it's not hat hard to spot these idiots

Nah, thanks but I don't really like bits. The only ones I've liked are the Tom Ford 'York' loafer with the chain, and the Husbands teaser looked good.

Does anybody have good refs for a collapsible heel loafer/slipper type thing? Indoor/outdoor use. Probably not an espadrille.

Well.....you negated the point of this reply but I have my eyes on these

I'm definitely of the Nakagawa opinion. We need to K-pop-troll the **** out of whatever norm item they try to use as a rallying symbol. They don't get to appropriate Hawaiian shirts, or anything to be fair - **** them. It would be too easy for assholes to just take something from mainstream culture and taint it, ruin it for everyone else. It's giving them too much importance to tip-toe around what they claim as theirs. Just negate that claim entirely.

Isn't it always already lost in a sea of references. When (like now) I'm tan and hairy I just look like a 70s aguely Burt Reynolds character and it is definitely a borrowed identity. These things (hawaian shirts) are so polysemic I don't think we have to do anything to bury these F***ers in noise anyway. When I look at this forum I mostly think (fondly) of japanese clothing geeks, 70s failuncles, LA 90s indie leftovers, trader cigar island vacation etc. so I mean we can contradict ourselves, we contain multitudes and these assholes will just get lost in the wash.

Speaking of Trader Joe's, this **** bangs....

View attachment 1416936

Back when I lived close to a TJ and shopped there regularly, there was an Indian couple in full traditional garb filling up a shopping cart with that. My wife and I looked at each other and without saying a word went behind them and bought one of the few packages that remained. If there was ever an endorsement...
