I found this very interesting myself because the trousers look flared, but when measured they are completely straight from knee to hem—9.75” across. Interesting illusion.

Looks great, a 70s silhouette. The trousers, although straight, look flared because, as you said, our eye is deceived by the image of a leg, and a traditional trousers leg, tapering from the top to the bottom. You have always to taper the trousers a bit, in order to make them look straight.
