I think the GG thread can handle a little criticism:

Has anyone else had heel stiffener problems, right out of the box, on their MTO lately? I have significant squeaking on my last x2 MTO, both times coming from one of the heel stiffeners. I wish fit was the issue, but this only appears on one shoe in each pair (not the same foot either).

One pair has been repaired by GG (heel stiffener re-glued). On the new pair however, I'm still hoping it will recede with more wear. I fear it will have to be sent back as well... :(

Are you talking about the shank? If so, yes, I have.

Some pastes or glues are just too brittle and they flake away from the surfaces they are supposed to hold together. That leaves bare leather rubbing against bare leather--a guaranteed recipe for creaking.

Ah, that I have not encountered, but I've had other issues with my MTOs as noted here awhile back.
