I think the GG thread can handle a little criticism:

Has anyone else had heel stiffener problems, right out of the box, on their MTO lately? I have significant squeaking on my last x2 MTO, both times coming from one of the heel stiffeners. I wish fit was the issue, but this only appears on one shoe in each pair (not the same foot either).

One pair has been repaired by GG (heel stiffener re-glued). On the new pair however, I'm still hoping it will recede with more wear. I fear it will have to be sent back as well...

Are you talking about the shank? If so, yes, I have.

For me it has been the heel counter / stiffener. My problem is that even when I'm not wearing the shoe, I can squeeze the sides of the heel cup and it makes the noise. I fear it has come loose...

Some pastes or glues are just too brittle and they flake away from the surfaces they are supposed to hold together. That leaves bare leather rubbing against bare leather--a guaranteed recipe for creaking.

Ah, that I have not encountered, but I've had other issues with my MTOs as noted here awhile back.
