Yeah, I like the fabric too. It's very similar to the white jeans they made last year.

Also from the article above:
...On January 30, the nominees will each present 10 looks from their Fall 2008 collections at a special presentation and celebration in New York City...

We get an advanced preview of their FW08 collection!

Grrr. I really wanted a pair of the 8oz jeans but that fit is way too slim/tapered. If only they made the straight cut in the lightweight fabric.

also an article in gq:

Engineered Garments

Daiki Suzuki, the visionary behind Engineered Garments, digs classic WASP style. But he pulls his true inspiration from the classics of the American workingman (think Filson, Carhartt, Dickies). His painter's pants, khakis, blazers, and suits are all casual, tough, and unstructured (that suit, for instance, isn't for the office). The silhouettes are tapered but not skinny. The vibe is masculine and laid-back, like you could break out the tools at any moment and start building. (We said could"”not should.)
and a q&a with daiki:

Name: Daiki Suzuki
Label: Engineered Garments
Born: Aomori, Japan
Currently resides: Brooklyn, New York
Age: 45

My hero: Ralph Lauren. He succeeded in turning his vision into one of the most successful businesses in the world.

First job in fashion: I sold socks on the street in Shinjuku, Tokyo, from a table just outside the door of a gentleman's store.

The look of my clothes: American sportswear, but everything is a little off-kilter.

The most stylish man of the past fifty years: Fred Astaire. He'd wear a tie pin without wearing a tie, or wear a tie as a belt.

The worst design idea I've ever considered: Making an entire collection in one fabric, like charcoal wool flannel.

My house is on fire. I grab: Nothing. I'd just get the hell out.

I'm getting executed at midnight. My last meal will be: Spaghetti al limone at Latteria in Milan.

The two pieces of clothing every guy should own: Jeans and a T-shirt.

Favorite item of clothing: Army fatigue pants

Eh, it's not too bad - the guys are wearing the stuff in the same way most of us here would, but then again maybe that's not the best for a photo shoot. I think they all want to get away from that baby though.

very true. but i imagined that if this shot was my introduction to eg, i would have written it off as an indie ralph lauren. or even an indie j crew. this could just be an aspect of the brand i hadn't really registered until now.

the important question is, now that eg is in gq, is it still cool?

For convenience, link to Gary's FW07 selections (page 1 of the EGFW07 thread): http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=37006

Also, the way GQ dressed up their models for the photo shoot, it's feels very GQ style, but with EG pieces.

The belt we have is black like the white one without studs. The buckle is Stainless Steel.

Tough to see the details, but looks like raglan sleeves, snap buttons and snap button flap chest pocket. Like the length of the sleeves. Says soft, washed cotton, but from how the sleeves are structured, maybe washed pique?
