NO. Why spend that much on a shoe that you're planning on ditching for an upgrade? Buying that shoe will just take away from money that could spend on the AE.

If you're against the idea of scrapping together a little more money and buying the AE outright, I'd suggest going to an outlet and buying an inexpensive (Read: approx. $50) pair of captoes. If you polish and care for them, they'll look fine, and you can beat them up without a care in the world.

What do you have against its being a punch-cap? It makes it less suitable as a tuxedo shoe, for which the Park Avenue is a second- or third-rate choice anyway. Some sartorial authorities rate the punch cap higher than the plain captoes for daytime formaliy. (I assume by "Baroque" you mean "broguing.")

Back from the dead, I have always bought Aristocrafts and generally like the way they fit my feet. The last pair of wingtips I purchased were made in Mexico and are a step down from the USA shoes that I loved. My parents lived right down the street from the Genesco plant in Nashville and I went their often to purchase seconds. Haven't looked at their Crown Aristocraft to see if they measure up to Alden/AE. No longer interested in the brand.
