Thanks!

They must have mixed up the Ravello and Whiskey secret recipes! biggrin.gif

I really like Whiskey - and especially this pair - since you can easily see the different color variations.

Relatively very dark on the point and lighter where it creases. Nothing new about this though.

I wish Whiskey weren't so rare to find, need more now.

They said this happens all the time and Alden responds by either attempting to repair the shoe, or they send it out for sale as a second. What they DON'T do is fast-track a replacement pair, which would seem to me to be the correct response; especially when you consider the degree of the defect. Anyways, I just wanted to post a pic below so there's a record of it. From what I've read, there's some disagreement as to whether or not there are quality control issues at Alden. Having felt the sting of a defective pair, and a 5 month wait for a new pair, I'd say there are:

That's bad for such a long wait...

You are - of course - right to return them.

I don't know how much you paid for them but I guess I'm not wrong to tell you that you will easily find another pair like these without waiting any longer.

I wouldn't wait nearly 6 more months for #8 jumper boots, at least if they don't have anything 'special'.

My 2 cents.

The right one nearly looks like Ravello. Probably because I brushed it a lot more than its sister - on the left (from my point of view).
I only used a damp cloth, a brush and a small spoon.

Oustanding pair of whiskey LWB...

Sorry you got a bad pair. Where did you get them and what color are they? (I'm not asking to criticize the retailer, just wondering who's selling an all eyelet captoe boot.) Thanks!

I think Alden NYC makes a cap toe boot on the Grant last with all eyelets.

That would be them. I ordered them through the Alden store in NYC. They were both helpful and sympathetic to the defect situation. I'm thinking my best bet is to send them back, get on the list for a new pair, and see if I can find another pair someplace else in the meantime. I'm guessing the reason for the wait is the 7.5D size. They were the shortest wait I came across on my initial hunt for a pair. Back in May, Shoemart told me over the phone that it could be a year.

I have the 4060 and it is a wonderful looking boot. nod[1].gif The defect on yours is absurd. Take them back and get on the list at Alden NYC and TSM. That's very unfortunate.

Alden models 4060 (color 8) and 4065 (black shell) at The Shoemart are similar, but are on the grant last. A boot very similar to the one in question, and also on the Barrie last, but in black shell and color 8, are at Alden Shop of SF and pics of them are a few pages back. No cigar shell captoe boots right now that I know of are being offered.

Alden of DC stocks a grant lasted cigar captoe boot on a commando sole - the boot is owned by several thread members.

Thats a bad blotch. I'd consider those as seconds for a couple of hundred bucks, cause after some wear I'm sure it would be fine, but not even at $400 seconds price. Finally what seems to be a "real" quality control issue, and not just a missing perf punch.shog[1].gif

To be honest, I know it sucks to be out the dough, but I'd stick it out and wait for the replacement if thats the one you REALLY want. If it was just a spur of the moment purchase, find something similar, which as mentioned is out there.

Thank you so much for this info. I was able to call them up and order a pair. Now I'll have a replacement in just a few days.

Anybody have these boots (Alden x J. Crew PT Snuff Suede Crepe Boots): http://www.jcrew.com/mens_category/shoes/casualbootschukkas/PRDOVR~19204/99101844774/ENE~1+2+3+22+4294967294+20~~~0~90~all~mode+matchallany~~~~~alden/19204.jsp? How heavy are these compared to other Alden boots? My CXL Ultimate Jumpers are extremely heavy. I'm contemplating having the sole switched out for Gumlites or something much lighter to limit foot fatigue.
