I enjoy the hint of olive in some of the older cigar.  Are these LWBs a few years old Uncle?  The dark brown welt and edge also give it a distinctive look, in contrast to the antique edge.  Wear in great health my friend...

nephew,
thank you

Just received a pair of cordovan AE wt boots (Dalton)... have never been a huge AE fan, but a very nice price presented itself to me on ebay and I was curious. The most significant difference from Alden boots was the weight. The AE Dalton feels as though they are about half the weight of my Alden boots. Both have JR double leather soles. While the AE is sleeker and has an unlined shaft, I have no idea what could account for such a significant difference in weight.

The reason I bring it up here is that having an unlined shaft and the lighter weight may make this cordovan boot cooler to wear in warmer temps. Anyone here have similar thoughts or experience with this?

I have felt the same thing. My only explanation is that Alden uses a steel shank and AE does not.

That steel shank would have to be cast iron to create that weight differential. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about Alden boots. I much prefer my Alden boots over the AE boot. The weight difference is just befuddling to me.
