Found a pair of cigar shell LWB on eBay in my size, they've been relisted a few times so I think the price ($400) is too high. What should I offer? The uppers looks to be in a good shape, but I'm not sure about the sole. Are these so worn down that they need to be replaced?

I think he will decline your lowball 100%

Yup, most likely, they've been listed for several weeks. I think they started at around 480 or something. It's still too much for a pair of used shoes.

Since joining this forum about a month ago I have been like a teenage girl (or boy) looking for an outfit to wear to the prom. My level of indecisiveness has been stunning. It's not just that I've returned (exchanged) two pair of shoes, its how many times I've seen shoes that I had to have on this site only to check back later and see another pair that were better than the first. The problem was that the idea of spending over $600 for a pair of shoes was not something I could easily wrap my head around. So, rather than spend $600+ on one pair, I spent $1,300 hundred on two, and I am completely at peace with my decision. In addition to a pair of color 8 shell Chucka's with commando soles from Alden of Carmel, I just got these cuties from epaulet of New York

400

I will continue to scour ebay for a rare deal on shell's but I am done with new shoe purchases for now (unless I can steal some LWB's in either whiskey or ravello). All of this does come with a question. My first instinct is to put plastic heel protectors on my shoes but I thought I read in this forum a few days ago that this can somehow compromise the integrity if the heel. I would appreciate the community's thoughts and advice on this issue.

Again, thanks to all. This really is a great community.

^^^ shawnc, you've definitely made a couple of nice scores recently. I particularly like the Alt Wiens from Epaulet. Good hunting in the future. Most importantly have some fun while your at it.

That's really not possible to say from those photos. You really need to feel them in person and see if there is a "sponginess" in the center of the soles to see if it is getting thin. However, the stitches around the edges all seem to be intact, which may be a good sign, since often the thread will be worn through in portions on heavily worn soles. The area and degree of thread wear depends on a person's gait though, so it can't be the only deciding factor.

Beautiful shoes, love Epaulet's collection. Secondly, time for a new tv.

That's it, I'm going to bed. Devilishly stylish combo sir.
Looking terrific!
Very cool Frank! Love the Whiskey and the combination... wear in great health my friend!
Stunning, I've always told myself I don't need a whiskey LWB. Currently changing my tune. :slayer:
Thanks gents. And Shawnc, FTFY:
It takes a certain amount of confidence obliviousness to pull this off. Not sure that I'm there yet but this sure looks good on you. Very nice.
Ha ha. :)

Uncle, great looking welt/edge trim. Question, is your gyw deck stitch black thread? It really looks dark, lot of character.
Someone asked recently, and Uncle confirmed, that those LHS originally had a dark welt and sole edge. When Uncle had them resoled with a double leather sole (opposed to the single they were originally made with), he had the edges dressed in antique. That is why the welt is still dark, but the sole edge is antique.

My first instinct is to put plastic heel protectors on my shoes

No plastic protectors. Just employ the 'Mac Break-in Method'.

Hi,

Is the barrie last significantly wider than the plaza last?

Opinions appreciated.
