@TweedyProf save those thin and fine striped shirts for suits or navy blazers and embrace bolder stripes (university, candy, bengal etc)

@heldentenor the focus with me has always been about "does it work, and why?" and it doesn't necessarily have to be in good taste as defined by the other thread. Good taste is a subset of looking good and we can all operate within the broader set. I'm just saying :tounge:

I'm with Greg as far as optimizing outfits. Sometimes I'll put stuff together, at the end of the day realize that something looks "off", and make a mental note. Otherwise, scale/contrast/balance/coherence are the things I strive for the most.
Side note: I have decided that I don't like herringbone ties with most plaids/gunclubs. Despite the fact that it's just a weave & mostly resolves to a solid, the ones I have can be distracting. I prefer them with flannel, donegal, and especially corduroy jackets.

I hope Murl will not object to my posting his awesomeness given the patterns on display here (and not using a square is a good move I think). The patterns and colors seem to me to work really well.

This also speaks to an issue about neats and odd jackets. Comments?

Not at all. Thanks for the kind words. For the record, I have no issues with SCs and neats/maccelfields (spelling?).

EDIT: agree with Unbel on the smaller pattern neats being best with suits.

Beat me to it, I was about to post same fit ITT. For me, a large neat like this one looks good with odd jackets. It's the smaller ones that I reserve for suits.

I know Greg will say, I think he even has, this this combo was accidentally happened upon, but its a very high degree of difficulty fit, and not something that most would even think to pair. Its awesome.

This is about what I generally strive for, but Id be lying if I said from time to time I dont get compulsive over whether or not I should swap out a PS or a tie to the point that I end up being a few minutes late to work. :hide:

I'm happy Greg chimed in. Having met him in person, I'd suggest that you'll remember him more than what he's wearing. You'll leave with a vague sense that he was well dressed, and that's really the point, isn't it? Same for unbel. We actually talked about the suit he wore that day, and still the person is what sticks in the mind.

That's nicely put SB. I haven't met Unbel yet but have met Greg once and it was really nice talking to him. He patiently let me sift through things and try things on tho I left without buying anything (I did later pick up two ties that I saw then).

That said, I do remember the linen blue butteros Greg was wearing the day we met, though coveting helps the memory just as nice folk do.
