Hi there

Sorry for the newbie question, any help appreciated ...

Until now I was wearing Levi's 501 but the I don't dig the new 501 style (much too large at the hem for my tastes).

I'm on the market for a pair of jeans which would have a 18-19 cm hem, but wouldn't be too tight on the legs. I'm 183 cm and wear my jeans in 34x30 (shorter than recommended- seems an impossible combination to find).

Any idea of a (preferably largely available) jeans spec which would fit the bill and be available in 34x30 ? I was thinking of the Levi's 504 ...

Thanks a lot for your help!

I think you're going to have something altered to fit that specification.

18cm in the hem is 7" width, which is well into skinny, and with a 34 waist, you're not going to find something that skinny in the hem that fits in the top block. The narrowest jeans in the hem I own (in size 34 also) are 8" or about 20 cm in the hem. and they're pretty skinny throughout the entire leg. You're looking for something 2+ cm smaller but not too skinny through the leg? Good luck w/o alterations.

Wait.. isn't that 6 feet? How could you wear a 30" inseam?

Reiterating LA Guy's concerns: if you're a 34 waist, a tapered leg is going to make you look very stocky (see: fat). If you're set on a small hem, I'd go for Nudie Even Stevens: they fit larger frames very well and can be purchased down to 32" inseam, which should be plenty short enough (besides, stacking looks good on small hem jeans).

yeah... unless your inseam is greater than your waist its best to avoid tapered legs.

I'm 183 cm tall (6 feet) and 78 kg (170 lbs) so thanks for the comments about me being ***** and short.

Wearing jeans with a 30" inseam has nothing to do with height but rather with my dislike for wearing jeans with a huge break on the shoe. I prefer them a little shorter.

Levi's 514 seems like an option to me. A 8" hem would be just fine too, I'm sure. I'll look into those options.

30" inseam sounds like it will be too short for your dimensions even if your legs are very short. I'm a bit over 6'1 (187 cm) and have a very long torso and arms with fairly short inseam (31" no break inseam on dress pants) and still wear 32" jeans for no rear break. It's likely that what you consider to have no stacking will be ok in the front but be 1-1.5" too short in the rear, but diff strokes I guess.
