Thoughts and opinions on Gray SC, Pocket square and tie combos........

I have my rehearsal dinner coming up next Thursday and have chosen to wear a gray SC (seen below), black pants and shoes. What I haven't decided on was the PS, tie and shirt combo. I kinda defaulted to a white shirt with this jacket an pant combo, but realize that a light blue would be great, too. Not interested in pink although I know it would be nice.
Anyway, I'm new to PS's, but already have purchased a white linen one for my wedding suit and didn't want to repeat the "white linen PS" for my rehearsal dinner outfit. Below are 2 different combos I purchased of which one or both will be returned. I also thought of wearing a Grenadine type tie with a more patterned pocket square. For the record I have salt and pepper hair, I'm not sure that makes any difference. I'd like for it be very sharp, obviously, but soooooooo many choices.

Here are the Pics:

The tie is Armani and very nice, but was wondering if its a little too conservative.

The pocket square is being shown with the baby blue with white dots side. The PS has 3 different sides/shades of Blue so I have some options. I thought the light blue at least gave some contrast. I know that having dots on the tie and on PS is a "no-no", but didn't think of it at the time.

I thought the gray/black/purple tie and this PS would be a HomeRun, but I'm just not sure if it really as good as I thought it would be.

As you can see, the pocket square below has 3 different shading of Lavender so once I learn how to fold the damn thing I will have some options.

Thanks in advance, guys. This website has been a revelation for me.

I like the first combination but the pocket square is throwing me off...maybe use a different fold.

haha, it wasn't exactly a "fold" so much as it was a hack job. Wanted to show it in some form.

Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

The purple square is matchy-matchy with the bolder tie. White linen will always look sharp.

The first tie is a bit sedate but fine. What about something more festive?

Funny you mention that. I thought that someone might say it was "matchy-matchy" even though there is really very little purple in the tie. Maybe because its the only hues that arent black'gray.......you guys would know better.

I like the white linen, but was just hoping to start my PS collection by gettting something interesting for this occasion. It would be PS #2 in my library of PS's after #1.....the white linen!

Yeah, I guess it is a bit sedate and can probably do better. Would a sky blue shirt be better with this tie and give the outfit some needed pop? If so, I would get rid of the blue PS since that would be too matching.

I'm afraid ordering something at this point would be a little late. I will most likely need to rely on Nordstroms at this point.

More suggestions or pics?????

Check out Howardyount.com for some options. The owner is SF's own Chorse123. Another good option would be http://www.fourinhand.com. Both sellers provide tremendous customer service.

A white linen square with a colored edge can be a very nice option.

Depends on the purpose...for evening or dinner, the paisley is nice. I'd pull it out with a center gather in the hanky instead of a square; for work or a conservative event, the first tie could work, but its a bit boring comparatively speaking. I'd go with the second choice with a silver tie tack and pull out the hanky a bit for style. You'll kill em!

I thought the second tie was more festive and suitable, however the big paisley and silk combo are too much for a white shirt. You would be best in a very pale blue shirt, that will bring the tie to life without it being to garrish against the stark white. You could then opt for the pocket square in any one of the guises pictured in the last photo. I have the exact same pocket square which I tend to use in a manner that simply peaks in the top corner of the pocket-a simple accent as opposed to a fold. This will lend itself to drawing the eye to the top of the chest and shoulders' peak. In any case, depending on the climate, I would have opted for a knitted tie in navy with polka dots as per Charvet/Gallo or Drakes and the silk pocket square.

Good luck.

Robbie :)
