I've tried both of them on recently and the Ellison is definitely darker. Here's a side by side comparison pic in similar lighting conditions.

I'm an 8E with high instep. Liking Carmina lasts more than Alden...

I got a couple of pairs there last summer. The shop is quite pleasant, and Miko was a great help.

To be honest it was the first time for me. It's a shame since I live in Paris and I work 5 min from the store !
I wanted to buy some more but I finaly decided to experiment one pair first to see if it fits me well before spending more money in that brand.
