I asked because it would be dependent on what type of orthotic you could fit into your shoe. Most full orthotics, especially prescription ones, won't work. Some thin styles, like Superfeet Black, might depending on your foot. Some people use 3/4 orthotics. Its kind of a crap shoot.
Thanks. I guess my real question is this: Can I get away with just the leather insole that comes stock w/ AE's (it seems kind of hard/stiff) or do I need to stick something in there to make them comfortable? Wondered what most of you do...
I think AE soles are pretty comfortable for leather soled shoes; it's just the way dress shoes are. They claim that the cork footbed conforms to your foot over time and helps cushion, too. If you're on your feet all day and/or are used to the softness of rubber soled shoes, you might try an insole. But I'd give them a chance to break in first and see how you feel.
If you have a specific issue that makes you always need insoles, then by all means do it.
Consider on of the shoes with a Poron insole of you're looking for a more squishy shoe.

Yes, good thought. The Brooks Brothers shoes have those.
I didn't care for the "squishy" feel of the BB AE so returned them. Purchased the Peal instead.

Hey guys
I have decent collection of Alden cordovan bluchers (many on the Barrie last) and love them. But as of late the price gap of Alden shell compared to Allen Edmonds is growing. I'd like to look into AE shell options. Could someone who owns both a shoe on the Alden Barrie last and one on the AE 1-511 last tell me how they compare with one another. I'm currently a SNUG 11.5 D on the barrie (true size 12) and would like to know how to size myself on the AE 1-511 Shell Leeds.
I also live in Canada and the stores that carry Allen Edmonds never have my size in stock.
Thanks in Advance ( i tried searching with no luck)
Chris
