This is formally true. The issue is whether it is substantively so.

Odd sponsorship choice - am I wrong in thinking that anyone with a prayer of winning this competition isn't likely to wear Kenneth Cole at all?

If I won this comp I'd get clothing in the widest range of possible sizes and donate it all to charity (assuming the rules allowed for that). There are plenty of people out there who are just getting out of vocational ed, shelters, etc., who need nice pants and shirts for interviews and jobs - I wonder how KC would feel about an unanticipated donation?

I believe last year's winner had a number of items from KC in his wardrobe (before the win). I may be misremembering what brands he wore, but he certainly wasn't purchasing bespoke clothing or the likes of Cucinelli, Isaia, Brioni, Attolini, etc. He was from Ohio.

With $20,000 Mafoo could buy, let's see... about 120 pairs of black, square-toed, rubber-soled, slip-on KC shoes.

What sucks is the winner is going to have to pay taxes on the prizes which wouldn't be bad if they were RLPL, Borelli or something in that league........even Brooks Bros is better than KC

In a perfect world, sure. But keep in mind that we on this forum are a far, far cry from the majority of guys out there when it comes to clothing -- even from the majority of Esquire and GQ readers. Most Esquire readers are happy to buy whatever designer-label brand they find, so long as they see it in the pages of Esquire. And have you taken a look at the clothing brands on display in Esquire recently? Kenneth Cole is often among the brands featured. Ralph Lauren is about as SF-acceptable a brand as you'll find in most issues of the magazine.

The point is, Esquire features the clothing of whoever's paying their bills (i.e., advertisers). Furthermore, your average Esquire reader takes no issue whatsoever with the likes of Kenneth Cole. Given those facts, I don't see it as odd whatsoever that KC is the sponsor of the competition. We may not like it, but then, we're the outliers and not the norm.

So, Mafoo -
If you win, might you actually take the entire wardrobe and model it for us? I think we'd get much entertainment from it.

for the asian guy......ditch the trendy glasses. Nothing says, "I'm original" like wearing the same nerdy Clark Kent glasses that everyone else has these days.

This comment was hilarious on just so many levels.

Foof: The One Glasses project seems to be a bit of a bust.

BTW, FTFY

What's the reaction you get from people who see inside your closet?

They say, "˜Matt, WTF? You have 5 identical pairs of shoes?!?'

It's a pity you didn't mention this. You probably would have been the headline. It's just the kind of detail the NYDN thrives on,
