Mack, what does this mean:

The lapel is narrow, though not quite as narrow as Mr. Browne's eponymous line, with three-button front rolls to the second button, and the two cuff buttons are widely spaced.
Do the suit jackets have only two buttons on the sleeve?

Nice job BTW.

I saw the suit jackets a few days ago in San Francisco and the cuffs do indeed only have two buttons, and they are spaced far apart. It's, um, quirky. Doesn't look bad though.

true. nearly all the vintage jackets from the late 50s-early 60s I've owned all had 2 cuff buttons (3 button and 1 button), which I also use for my Thick as Thieves one button jackets

and watching the Get Smart dvds right now you notice nearly all of Maxwell Smart's suits in season 1 are one button with 2 button cuffs

I just don't like "retro". It's fine if you are buying a vintage suit, but I don't get it when you are a buying a suit made in 2007. I'm all about evolution.

Since the TV show Get Smart was mentioned, I was watching "Bachelor Party" over the weekend and the guy who plays Tom Hank's best friend (I think he was the "Dance Fever" guy), was wearing a sports jacket with a hand attached collar in the scene in the hotel room. You get a glimpse of it when he is dancing with one of the strippers. I thought that this being styleforum, everyone would be happy to know that.

But I wouldnt consider how many buttons are on the cuff to be "retro". Whether it has one, two, 3, 4, 5 etc is, to me anyways, a matter of preference and/or design aesthetic. I don't buy into a mantra that a jacket should only have 4 buttons. Where did that magic number come from, that it's so revered as being "correct"??

I like one button on sportcoat cuffs, so I keep ordering them that way. They keep arriving with three buttons.

It came from me, so you either fall in line or suffer the consequences.

My thoughts are simply to look at the era where a particular thing was popular. 2 button cuffs were done in the 50's-60's. They are no longer done for the most part, hence my "retro" comment. I feel the same way about things from that era, like fedora's, very high waisted pants, knickers etc. I grew up with the 3/4 button cuff, and hence that is what is "right" for me. If the new style became 10 button cuffs, I would still be wearing the 4 button cuffs and hence be retro myself.

Honestly when I see those two-button jacket cuffs with the wide space I immediately think of ****** late 80s Sears jackets from the thrift store in strange patterns and synthetic fabrics. I know that they have a more upstanding history than that, but that's just where I've seen them the most.
