^^ Eh, that's not that bad. Etons are really nothing to write home about. Probably on par with Talbott dress shirts. Nothing special. I pass them up all the time. Passing up the Caraceni on the other hand would have me going all month long.

I passed on a Caraceni SC today, very soft wool, possibly cashmere, surgeon's cuffs, roped sleeveheads, double vents. Probably measures anywhere from a 42 to a 46. When I googled and eBayed "Caraceni" a few hours later, I flew back to the store but, of course, it was gone.

I bet no one can top that for stupidity! (Hey, if I can't brag about a purchase, I can brag about idiocy. At any rate, brag.)

Generally, when an item is top quality, odds are that it's a good buy.

And if you leave something nice, don't even try to go back and claim it. As a rule, it's gone. Even in a tiny little town like where I am.

Noobizor: nice find on the Pynchon. Books are my first love, and I always feel a little guilty that I spend so much less time scanning the thrift shelves now... That used to be the only reason I went to thrift stores. Ha! I think I'd make the hardback my 'reading copy' and keep the Vintage in vintage condition, though

Haha, I actually had to start thrifting after stacking up a good two years' worth of interesting or hard to find gems from Half-Price Books. (Don't know if they have that in SF). Just wasn't fun knowing it'd take so long to actually read them. On the other hand, it is nice to know what you're looking at if you're hoping to make a profit...

@Do the Grownup: I think it's great your copy is plausibly dented! Otherwise, people will come over, see the that book, and roll their eyes.

Worst thing I've passed up was a Canali DB suit. It was ventless but other than that it looked pretty good, but it was something like $25 or $30.. I was pretty unsure if I could flip it for any decent profit so I passed. No terrible losses, though, thankfully.

Exactly. All it takes is one good non-miss per month or so and the phone pays for itself and then some.

Can anyone tell me who made this sportcoat? The LH Napoli tag is throwing me off.....

The LH Napoli is the Rubinacci label. From Rubinacci's website:

"The LH label, chosen by Gennaro Rubinacci for the atelier in Naples, was selected by the founder in honour of British elegance, which he did not know personally, but which he greatly admired. So much so that, we are told, he sent his coachman to London, so as to have a firsthand account on the style and taste of Englishmen. The man, once in London, called Gennaro and told him: "Even here you are the most elegant man". This enthusiasm has survived throughout the years and has now brought Rubinacci to London with a showroom under the management of daughter Chiara."

I have no idea what the LH stands for or means. Perhaps someone else can chime in there.

London House.

I got a Chester Barrie 3 pc suit in my size minus its pants I looked everywhere but could not find the pants. The suit is grey with very subtle windowpane pattern. Is there any way I can wear the jacket and vest without matching pants?

I also find another Chest Barrie sportcoat, made in US... I didn't know CB was made in US as well. Anyone has any idea?

Pretty sure thats a diffusion line of CB, which really is just like a licence, and it made kind of crappy - just like the resale value. I remember seeing a 3 piece suit like that on B&S for like 250 for weeks before someone bought it after many drops. I think.

I looked at the US made CB again, I think it is at least at the level of HF. It has hand-sewn button holes and real horn buttons, and it has ticket pocket too.

Anyway, I am more worried about the UK made CB 3 pc suit now. Did anyone tried wearing matching vest and jacket, without matching pants? Is it against SF rule?

I think I had a relatively good day today.

Things I bought today, all in my size if not mentioned otherwise:

Two Alexander Julian bespoke suit with working button holes. They fit me as if they were made for me. They are made in US in 1989, but look quite modern.

A Gucci sportcoat, with ticket pocket.

Brioni blue DB blazer, slightly too large for me, but I think I could make it work.

The jacket and vest from a 3pc Chester Barrie suit, made in UK. Another CB sportcoat, made in US.

An Incotex wool pants in my size. A pair of very interesting Brioni pants with a 38" waist, for trade or sale.

One BBBF, one T&A, one Pal Zileri, two Zegna shirts, all in my size. One Marol shirt for my trading partner.

A Rubinacci and a Luciano Barbera tie, both very dated though.

One Tod's and one Magli loafers.

Things that I didn't buy: A tan Brioni suit for women in size 40 and a Brioni orphan suit jacket for women in size 14.

Lastly, I bought a bespoke TOMMY E GIULIO CARACENI pure cashmere sportcoat for a small fortune. According to SF, it should be better than Kiton. Unfortunately it is not in my size, but rather a size 44 or 46. I will put it in B&S later. If you have something exceptional to trade, let me know as well.

^^^I have been thrifting regularly for 3+ years and I have never seen any BBBF item in the wild. Great find, especially in your size.
