A nice pair of crocodile/alligator shoes is high on my wish list. The last pair I saw on eBay was in far worse shape than those and my snipe of $289 came up over $50 short. I think you did really good. I'm sure that other pair would sell well also.

aaargh! one of my worst: snagged a really nice lp horsey jacket on ebay, only to find it was a woman's (seller immediately refunded and apologized profusely).

Do you gents like alligator/croc/exoticleatherfromanimals shoes b/c they're different/exotic OR because they look good?

I dont find croc shoes or any shoes like that appealing. =/

I have always liked them because growing up when there was a mention of them on TV or in the movies they were always in reference to some rich and/or well-dressed character. The only time I ever saw a pair on someone when I was young was on the feet of the president of the local bank. He was by far the best dressed man I knew growing up. I guess I just learned to equate them with someone who had style.

I wonder if they are going the way of the fur coat? I actually found a mink coat at a thrift (!) for $150 but my wife said she wasn't interested. She's no vegan or animal activist but she just said they were tasteless. I wonder if that's staring to apply for exotic skins?

Of course, cowboy boots are excluded...

Picked up adecent score today on a quick trip.

Dolce & Gabbana tie NWT from Century 21 dept. store.
Sweet Polo RL wool tie
Nice and thick T&A tie

XL Canali shirt - very soft blue button down - almost a demin look
Ben Silver shirt

The Canali shirt is really not my style so if anyone is interested, I'll certainly let it go at a good price...I can send a couple crappy phone pics if there's interest.

Also passed on a pair of Ferragamo shoe as they were pretty well worn.

Wasn't sure where to post this, but since this thread is what inspired me, I'd figure i'd first try here. I did my first trip to a thrift shop today and was completely overwhelmed. There was just so much stuff and being new, I had a hard time telling what was good and not. I picked up a number of things which I will post later, but here is the stuff I passed up on. I need some help figuring out if it was good stuff or garbage that I missed on. ** Most of this stuff didn't fit me or I didn't want. If you want it I can probably try and get it for you; however, I hope you can help me figure out what is good or not. Here are some jacket that actually had the sizing on them, mostly too big for me:

Finally a mad number of ties, these were ones that either had a name I recognized or were nice and thick.

Again I am hoping to gather a small list of names you typically find in thrift stores that are worth picking up for ties, jackets, and dress shirts. And maybe some tips on how to figure out if they are real are not. Let me know if any of you are interested in these and I will take a further look or pick them up for you at minimal cost as I really just want some help figuring stuff out at this point. Hopefully I am not out of place by putting this here. I did pick up some stuff I liked and will post those later. Any help is really appreciated and any finds I get that you want you will have dibs and DEEP discounts on.

Thanks, I will get rid of those from the pictures to condense the thread. Any thoughts on the ties? The Dior Monsieur one looked a bit fake, but I can't tell. It's odd that the label is sewn like that.

PS: I am in the Chicagoland area. This was my first stop at 1 of about 8 I am hoping to check out at some point. I spend about 3 hours there.

I am definitely trying and have looked up quite a bit regarding the names. In terms of finding whether or not the Dior ties are fake, I cannot tell. Th le connaiseur seem real

I will remove the top portion my post, as that isn't very helpful, but will leave the other stuff up in case someone wants any of that stuff.

Sorry, probably should've been more polite. Research is the best way honestly. I've also looked on Ask Andy About Clothes forum too.

The Dior looks real, but it's the old licensed stuff and isn't as valuable as the modern day Dior Homme.

Thanks everyone including K4lnamja for the info so far. I didn't even know about askandy, but for some reason that site is hard on the eyes.

Is there a point in me leaving those jacket or tie pictures up or should I just get rid of them? Not sure if people on this site do this kind of thing or not.

Found a vintage Brooks Bros trench today that turned about to be a woman's. I've got to have the wife try it on, but it's likely too big for her.

I also found a reversible suede/leather A-1 jacket from Bally, made in Italy. The knits need to be replaced so I'm checking on having that done. I really like the A-1 style. Anyone familiar with Bally products beyond their shoes?

^^Since we are past it, I'd say leave them up there as visual evidence of what not to look out for, except for potentially the brooks and armani (depending on condition, styling, etc)
