I started to think there was about a 50/50 relationship between "beautiful winery" and "wine is lame."

Yep, that's the case more often than you'd think.

Korbel needs to change their old slogan from "The Champaign's not Korbel" to "Korbel's not Champaign"!

The wine is lame, but if you're in the area, it's still worth the free tour. Korbel is one of the oldest and most storied wineries in the country. The tour is a cool little history lesson. Then you can head back into Guerneville and get a badass ice cream at the corner parlor and then head out to Goat Rock Beach!

Drank some good stuff last week: 2005 Chateau Beaucastel Chateauneuf Du Pape and a 1996 Raveneau Chablis Les Clos. Glad I wasn't picking up the tab on that one.

Not a big secret or anything, but Roederer Anderson Valley Brut sparkling wine is great at around $20, and the rose is also very nice for a few dollars more. There are probably better ones up closer to your price limit, but this is a great fall back option.

Good rec. Segura Viudas is a great Cava for around $20 too.
