i've had the hp 18 and the balvenie 21 portwood and I liked the bv 21 better (although it wasn't on my dime so this isn't commenting on the qpr)

potentially stupid question but does anyone keep the sleeves bottles of scotch come in? Is there any reason to? What are they even called?

The tubes? I keep them for as long as there is still whisky in the bottle; but I always keep stuff like that... I suppose the reason to is to keep them out of direct sunlight, but that won't matter if you pound through them pretty quickly.

Just found out that the Ben Bracken 12yo Speyside single malt that LIDL sells is actually Tamnavulin. If I understood right, they bought some casks when the distillery closed. Any feedback on Tamnavulin? Comments say for the price it's a good everyday malt.

I'm not much of an expert, but I like my occasional Glengoyne 17yrs a lot.
Also like the Glenlivet 18yrs

Funny, that whiskey is nearly as old as I am.

Just tried some Finlaggin Old Reserve from Trader Joe's last night. For $18, it wasn't bad, but I wish it was a tad bit less iodine-y, and a bit less rough around the edges. Even still, for the price, it was a bargain.

I am looking for a single malt for my father's christmas present. Does any one have any recommendations for a single malt under £30 ($50)? I was thinking Cragganmore.

You could get a Signatory Laphroaig 2000 for 25 sterlings, in addition to the regulars. I bought my dad Isle of Jura Superstition in that price range for Father's Day.

If you're in Glasgow, go in and ask at the Whisky Shop in Buchanan Galleries, or Tam's Drams in Argyle St. They'll give you samples, advice etc
