BBBF made in US shoes are made by Alden,usually.

I don't work for BB anymore (though I did for many years), but pretty much all shoes made in the USA for BB were made by Alden when I was there...and I've not heard anything to the contrary in the 2 years since I left. So, it's a guess, but I'm thinking yes.

I'm pretty sure they're not made by Alden but don't quote me since I haven't seen those shoes in person.

Nice to see the return of some classic corodvan boots at Leather Soul. I'm astounded by how the small details can affect the appearance of a shoe. Case in point, the Leather Soul/Context (Context has pull tab) and the Leffot Tankers. A change in the welt and the colour of the edgetrim make, to my eye, a completely different boot. The antique edgetrim made the #8 look like cigar, for some reason. I also prefer the reverse welt with the "Tanker" boot configuration though. Another example is the Leather Soul, Shoemart, and Leffot versions of the Cigar Indy. Leather Soul kept the reverse welt with a close heel, while Shoemart went with an all around reverse welt, and Leffot opted for a regular welt. There's also the case of speedhooks vs. all eyelets, but it's the welt that really sets them apart. Not only does this small detail make the LS version a true Indy, but also the version which is most pleasing to my eye. The welt of the Shoemart version makes the heel look too clunky, while the Leffot version looks too dressy with its blind eyelets and regular welt. Jason, you should write an article about this on your blog (I know the topic of LS's colour accuracy in product photos has been discussed ad nauseum, but I have to say this about the PTBoot photos: these boots are black pause NOT.

I think they are allen edmonds,dont look like any of the alden lasts.

Yes, but that could likely be accomplished with much less then Alden cordo I love my new tankers, first pair of shell and definitely a fan so far. Looking forward to getting some good wear on them but not sure I'll be able to bring myself to break them out for the snowy WI winter.

Those LS cigar Indy boots look great, I love that they kept the close heel of the standard Indy on them, I like that much more then the 360* style you typically see on the cordo Indys.

I am getting thoroughly confused by all the various welts, closed heels etc... Can someone comment on what the dark strip/layer is on these whiskey longwings? Is that considered part of the welt? http://www.thebureaubelfast.com/shop...-wing-blucher/

i'm in the same boat as edubs trying to decide between a nst or a captoe in #8 already have 2 longwings.

^Yes, the dark strip that you see between the sole and the cordovan upper of the shoe is the welt.

Because it is on the outside of the shoe, it is a reverse welt. This one goes all the way around the sole of the shoe, making it an all around reverse welt. Sometimes you'll see the reverse welt stop at the heel (as on the standard 403/405 Indy boot); this is known as a "close heel". A regular welt has the welt on the interior of the upper so it is not visible from outside, giving it a cleaner and dressier look.

Pretty bummed. Actually, really bummed. Just called LS and don't have my size in the Cigar Indys anymore. I had my fingers crossed that an 8.5D was available. WHY?!?!?!

I was recently fitted to a pair of Alden 405's at Boston Pedorthic. Since the size 9C would be out of stock for a long time (14 weeks they said), the pedorthist suggested I go with 8.5D instead. Upon trying on the boots after they received them in a shipment, the length was perfect but the boots were very snug. The pressure comes down from the top, near the end of the toebox, around where the laces start. My main concern is just that the leather will not stretch out enough to fit my foot a little better; again, the length is perfect and there is no pain at all, simply discomfort from the snugness (especially the left foot, which is a tiny bit bigger than my right foot).

What do you guys think; should I see if I can swap for a new size or see if the boot stretches out?

Seems a bit odd that a foot specialist would put you in a size you don't measure for ...
