Balla

I tricked my wife into getting her finger sized for me right before I finalized the size for the ring designer. She had a ring from her grandma that she was putting off getting fitted forever, so I took her to the jeweler to finally do it and snatched he ring size when she was being fitted.

Finally had something from Summus last night... what for them equates to their "grand reserve". A nice Sangio... color still very ruby, no hint of brick. Drinks like a chianti in that it's on the light side despite a very ********. Nice bottle.

Followed it with another 2001 Malvira Langhe.

I think this is mostly cabernet (~40%) and syrah(~35%), with about 25% sangiovese.

Wow. A monstrous wine, yet an elegant wine. Tons of deep fruit, cassis and spice, smooth tannins but enough tannins and acid to age for years. I have another bottle and plan to let it sleep for 7-10 years.

It's okay, plenty of good stuff left for us to drink.

FYI, will be seeing ME at a dinner soon. Same place you're staying at. Also, turns out the somm I knew that I had thought left that place...didn't. Then, just last week, I found out I know one of the three owners! Was quite a week, as relates to where you're staying.

Has anyone here had Bond - St Eden variety - in the early 00s? I've happened upon a half case for a relative bargain and I'm wondering if they really are as good as people say they are.
