Verizon says simultaneous voice and data coming

Verizon late Friday indirectly confirmed some of the rumors swirling around the CDMA iPhone's ability to handle simultaneous voice and data. Executive Brian Higgins mentioned that the company was working on a way of overcoming CDMA's inherent limit on data, which prevents the EVDO 3G conection from running at the same time. He didn't give the WSJ a timetable for when it would be ready.

Although not mentioned by name, the technique would involve Voice over Revision A, or VoRA. The technique puts calls on EVDO Revision A alongside data and gives it behavior similar to HSPA 3G on a network like AT&T's or T-Mobile's. Some Verizon phones, such as the BlackBerry Tour or G'zOne Ravine, already use EVDO for push-to-talk calls.

The network adaptation is informally considered important to the iPhone's launch on Verizon early next year. AT&T's ability to support simultaneous data and voice on 3G has been a key selling point for the iPhone that has turned up in TV ads. VoRA would immediately close that gap and play to the iPhone's strength in multitasking during a call.

Tons of white iPhone 4 news these days. Details on the white iPhone 4 delay: Apple has struggled to match the color of the home button with the phone bezel. Allegedly, someone also sent Steve Jobs an email asking about the white version (and it's "later this year" release date) and he responded with "Christmas is later this year." Finally, Stephen Fry flashed a white iPhone 4 at a Microsoft Phone 7 press conference.

Ridiculous. That looks awesome.

People can also custom-install white parts on their 4s...this reminds me of those Nokias from the 90s with the light-up cases and antennas.

The metal back does look pretty good, but technically speaking, you may have just altered the phone's wireless performance for both WiFi and cellphone service, as well as its emissions compliance.

Yesssss VLC player was just released for the iPhone. Finally, the ability to watch any video you like without having to spend an hour converting it to .mp4 first.

This is idiotic. The iPhone has been sold as a corporate device for quite some time. I seriously doubt that they'll have such a pleasant reaction to this little security flaw.

I have a BB for work and an iPhone for home. Anyone who buys an iPhone for a business should just assume its wide open to the public and shouldn't be shocked when security is breached by a 14 year old with access to YouTube. If you rely on Apple for secure communication you deserve to get burned. LOL.
