You guys sucking at partying if you're scoping out the men in the room for style mistakes.

Anything done with the sole purpose of looking more non-conformist (which, invariably, everyone else is doing):

Loosened ties
Not wearing a tie with a suit
Untucked shirts (even worse: untucked shirts under a jacket)
Ugly, tacky ties
Hermes ties
Ugly, tacky pocket squares
Over-poofed or Angry Jester stuffed pocket squares
Jackets that are too tight and/or too short

However, I hate it even more when someone artlessly follows the typical iGent prescriptions (wear a pocket square, wear brown shoes, wear a knit tie, make sure you have high armholes, etc.).

Most of the parties I attend require rubber body suits, although leather is acceptable too.

Actually, like the OP I'd have to say bad fit is the number one...

+1. See this everywhere even from A list stars on the red carpet. Probably the most egregious mistake IMHO. That and lousy shoes.

Insecurity manifested by constantly trying to perfect the outfit:

-tugging at the shirt sleeve to make sure there's enough showing thru the jacket
-fussing with the pocketsquare as it has dipped too low into the pocket
-tuggin in the bit of loosened shirt
-adjusting the belt buckle,
-pulling up OTC socks that's slipped a bit

I've seen this on people forumites would consider "authority" on menswear.

Would this include the word sartoria?
