Beaujolais nouveau seems so weird to me. They always release the third Thursday in November, right? I mean, they always allow 6-8 weeks for fermentation, so they harvest sometime right at the end of September or beginning of October. No matter what, they have to harvest it then so that it makes it out by release date. It just seems like the grape-growing is aimed at the release date rather than what the proper time to harvest would be. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

In general, you are correct.... ....but that isn't the point of BN. It's to celebrate the first wines of the 2009 harvest, to get drunk, to forget about the **** at work for one night etc. I've had a spectacular amount of incredible wines throughout the years, but I still love BN, not necessarily for the wine specifically but for what it means to the thousands of people throughout the world. There's nothing complex about it, nothing haunting, nothing worth celebration besides the celebration itself. Today marks the year since I departed for Italy for the first time (and reunited with my girlfriend after our longest time apart for 5 years), and I will drink to that god damn it!!

Even with the assist of appropriate pairing foods, that grape-juice wine just ain't my thing.

Went with a 1990 Fourcas Hosten, a bit past its prime, but found a case in my storage bin that I'd forgotten about. Holding up quite well, it only started to fade after an hour in the decanter.

Drink extra for me.

of course, but I also whipped up a double espresso with my machine so it's like a legal speedball when combined with the wine

Anyone like lambrusco wines? I enjoy the light fruitiness of it, which makes it, to me, a very good one to drink along with a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

as long as it's not Riunite (if only for the demographics of that wine) I'm a fan. I've had some great sparking Lambruscos too, very under the radar. For thanksgiving, seek out a Zin from California. I've seen 2 from Ridge (IMO one of the best Cali producers) under $20 as of late.

Ravenswood Zinfandel is a really nice Zin from the Russian River Valley, and at $28, is a pretty good value.
